i liked it. teenage audience. very dark. things are not always what they seem. the ending was obvious, but the plot took so many twists and turns it didn't become boring. advanced tech people forced to live in the 1880's and a separate special prison that no one can find or fix - and those on the inside and the outside both dream of Escape.

There's just too much. I feel like there are a lot of interesting pieces to this story (many that I haven't mentioned here) that could have made really good stories on their own, or could have been saved for the sequels that I will never read, but there are just too many pieces for this one short book.

Took a while to get into it but boy oh boy did I get into it. Loved the idea of the futuristic prison ,different concepts of time (era). Going to get the sequel as soon as I can.

Maze Runner meets the cunning and plotting of old world royal court intrigue. Fun read with a couple of moments of, "Huh. Didn't see that coming."

Goodreads should have a 'did-not-finish' option, or should I say, could not.

Dnf. Couldn't get into the writing.

Liked this so much I looked to see if I could buy the sequel from amazon Canada instead of waiting until December for the American release. Nope, out of stock. grr... This is supposedly to become a movie. I'd be interested in seeing some of the settings come to life.

So, I started out really loving this book, and loved it a wee bit less by the time I was done. I think the main problem is that it's not a standalone, you've got to start with the next book (I don't mind series books, but I do mind if I feel like I can't stop)

There are some amazing ideas in this book that I hope get fleshed out in the next. I like the characters well enough (the Warden was actually my favorite, is that bad?).

What I really DID like (and got a chuckle out of) was the idea of the missing prince.
Spoiler And when they do find someone that might or might not be the prince? The general idea is "eh, fuck it, that's the dude we've got so roll with it, regardless of his legitimacy." It was awesome.

I hope that Sapphique closes the story out nicely so I can keep liking this book, instead of getting mad at it, as I'm prone to do to first novels when sequels don't measure up and I feel I can't leave the first book as a standalone.
