I read 500 pages of this, and am just tired of the torture.

Take notes, they will help so much at first. It will say “he did” / “he said” but the POV changes up without notice so knowing the characters will keep you from being confused. Hard book to read since it’s so emotional but such a good read. I felt connected to the characters, almost like a friend by the end so you really feel their feels. Triggers!

This is one of the best books that I have ever read. After finishing it, I struggled to read other books because nothing compared to how well written and complex this story is. I truly think about this book every single day.

Devastating and so good.  The characters rich and complicated. The relationships felt genuine.

This was an INCREDIBLY hard read. Yahnagihara is such a compelling, jaw dropping writer, and made me feel SO MUCH in like, 700 pages. -.5 for being a bit “trauma porn-y”

Not a fan of her writing although I really liked the story. However so many things that were irrelevant to character building or plot were discussed on and on in detail, and then crucial character development was built up and dropped, or neglected entirely. The book ends up being so long with frivolous details and that you have a hard time remembering what's even happened and what's important. And the "mystery" is not so much suspenseful as it is infuriating. Especially when certain elements are never revealed at all after hours of hyping them up.
