Sarah Dessen can be such a hit or miss for me, and this one was a miss. It just felt like nothing happened in this book besides a girl had a bad relationship with her mom. And the love story was disappointing.

Sarah Dessen = Good Book.

That's all there is to it!
emotional

holy fuck.
i wont even lie to you right now. i found this book on my shelf randomly saturday afternoon and I'm like "what even is this old ass book doing here...?" long story short, i'm pretty sure I got it for free at like, a book swap or something along those lines. When I tell you I could. Not. Put. This. Down. I mean it. Like, I genuinely stayed in one spot like a freaking rat. i usually don't get this interested in a book unless it is good. but this book? AMAZING.
it's a mirror type of book. i could relate to mclean's issues. mclean is really going through the type of issues that i can relate to. most of the time in reads, i dont get so immersed in the universe the story is set in, and i dont look so deep into the details. but this books made me think. it made me wonder what would've happened to me if i was in her shoes. what choices she should've made differently. and as the main character, i feel like its her responsibility to be INTERSTING. to keep me wanting to read. but she didnt annoy me. most times in books like these, the FMC pisses me off. like, alot. long story short, this book was written in the most relatable and easy to read way ever.
i read it on saturday and finished it the next morning. that's how good this book was. i'm a pretty slow reader unless I'm totally immersed, especially in a book this length (401 and 1/2 pages exactly).
like, seriously, this book deserves more credit. It is amazing. I will be recommending this book to everyone.

2.

2.5 stars.

Good stars- One star is for the dad as I freaking loved him. The other was because I found it interesting enough to enjoy reading it. And the half star is because Mclean is not as passive as some of Dessen's characters.

Bad stars- Five things- some parts were boring, I didn't like Mclean, her mother annoyed me too much,I didn't feel Mclean's and Dave's relationship at all and the way the novel is written.

I didn't like this as much as the other novels. Now was overused too many times especially in this one, here's an example- The novel would go on about something that had happened and then put Now we and it was just over-used too many times in this story and was rather annoying.

Mclean was too dull a person in this one apart from her issues with her mom and basketball.
I liked Dave and would have preferred if it was his story being told and I would love to know why he fell for Mclean so much when there was nothing to her. And no wonder she invented herself into different people being as she was so boring.

Despite the protagonist I enjoyed the book as I find the issues in this book much more interesting.
Like how Mclean hated her mother as she blamed her for her parents splitting up. Her mom was the one who cheated and yet she was determined that the marriage collapsing was not her fault. She went from Katie Sweet to Katherine Hamilton way too drastic. Put with the fact that she was way too clingy and weepy she had a problem that I just couldn't put my finger on of what it was.
Like how Mclean brought Debbie in the friends she was hanging around with-Deb was interesting as she made bitchy Heather change her opinion on her.

I cared about the other characters more and wanting to know more about them all-but unlike The Truth About Forever we didn't get a back story from them.

Her new friends, her father (aw I just automatically loved him), the restaurant gang- I loved all of their quirks and the way they were so dysfunctional, truly funny moments and the broken relationship between a mother and daughter make the story interesting and a good read. If only Mclean was cut out the novel I'd probably put the rating higher.

it’s called a basketball HOOP, sarah.
