3.85 AVERAGE

The ending was not what I remembered but you know what, its a sarah dessen novel and I finished it in 2 days.

Mini Book Review: A delightfully real and honest story. All of the characters ring true and the dialogue is very authentic for the target audience. The parents of course were a wee bit clueless but they owned up to their mistakes and acted very human. I got a kick of some of the scenes involving the restaurant, as I worked in the field , and when they mentioned "being in weeds" it brought back memories. I enjoyed her style of writing and the plot moved along nicely. None of the characters were stereotypical like in many YA books, You know the bitchy cheerleader, the angsty boy, the loner, etc. Very impressive I highly recommend this to everyone, especially teens who have been through Divorce. For those who are concerned with the following, there is no sex or violence and very little mention of drinking so it is also a clean read and good for even readers as young as 10. I will definitely be checking out other books by Sarah and really wish there had books like this when I was growing up. I went straight from Judy Blume into adult books, there was no in between stuff like this.

4.5 Dewey's

I borrowed this from Jenn on recommendations from Teri who absolutely loves Sarah Dessen

3/5

Whenever another Sarah Dessen book is published I expect perfection. I want a book with a good plot, characters with dept and emotion who have a life outside of their relationship with the main character; I want some sespence, but with a realistic feeling throughout the whole story.

And This book did not let me down. Every page had me even more in it's grip. I couldn't put this book down, it was almost as if it was super glued to my hand.

I was worried at first about this book living up to my expectations. The summary didn't sound to exciting or anything like her other books. I didn't think it'd have a orginal plot. I thought it'd be one of those liquid going threw the motions books where nothing intense really happens and the characters are just decentish at best.

I'm glad that wasn't the case.

3.5.

Love that Heidi and Thisby were back, though I saw it coming from miles away. This book solidified for me that Dessen is much more absorbing in audio form. There was more than one time I skimmed entire passages because they dragged on a bit too long for me.

That said, the parts about divorce and custody battles and being the pawn in between with no voice resonated very, very loudly with me.

Not my favorite Sarah Dessen, but still good quality young adult book.

After her parents divorce, Maclean Sweet has found herself moving constantly. She has been in 4 different towns in the past 2 years. Using a different name at every new school she attends, Maclean reinvents herself after each move. So, when she arrives in Lakeview, and goes to pick a new identity, she is surprised when she chooses Maclean. Now, making new friends and falling for a boy, Maclean is learning to accept herself and learn to not run away when things get real.

Dave is such a sweetheart! I really enjoyed Opal and Deb as characters. Riley and Heather were also great! Maclean however, fell short for me. I found her to be dull and boring.... Maclean's Dad made me laugh but her mom drove me insane at times. One thing I love about Sarah Dessen books is that she includes characters from her other books into her new work and I love finding them in the story!

As a basketball player, I loved the basketball concept in the book - BUT - when the basketball net is constantly called a basketball goal it made me cringe so hard....

I found the pacing of this book to be a bit slow for my liking and it took a very long time for things to actually happen. I liked how Maclean and her mother's relationship developed in the story and how they learned to compromise and accept each other in the end.

Overall, the book was just average, not one that will stick with me for years to come.
