For a new-to-me author to hit it out of the ballpark on the first shot is crazy. I met this author at a book convention this past summer and I was interested in her writing because she writes about crime families (mob, mafia, whatever you call it) and her description was rough romance. I asked her what her recommendation would be for a new reader, and after a couple of questions this one became my choice. She was not kidding. This is *not* light reading, this is in your face, "Scarface" romance. I know that's a big comparison, but it's true. The story takes you where you want it to go, but along the way there is rough and tumble sex, there is out and out killing and there is happy. I cannot wait to read the next one in this series that is already waiting on my kindle.

Das Cover und der Klappentext dieses Romans haben mich sehr angesprochen und auch den Anfang der Geschichte fand ich recht gut. Leider nahm meine Begeisterung mit weiteren Kapiteln immer mehr ab.
Die Story zwischen Reyes und Casey fand ich sehr vielversprechend, trotzdem hat die Chemie zwischen den beiden überhaupt nicht gestimmt. Bereits zu Beginn habe ich mich gefragt, wie es mit den beiden weiter gehen soll, da ich für sie keine Zukunft gesehen habe. Mein Verdacht hat sich daraufhin bestätigt und die beiden kamen sich immer näher, ohne wirklich aufeinander einzugehen.
Der Großteil der Handlungen besteht aus Sexszenen zwischen den beiden, die, zumindest anfangs, sehr einseitig wirken und nichts mit Konsens zu tun haben.
Deswegen werden einige sehr ernste Themen angeschnitten, die leider nicht ausgeführt werden und den Leser etwas alleine lassen. Gerade bei suizidalen Gedanken ist es wichtig, diese mit Sorgfalt zu behandeln und das wurden sie hier fatalerweise überhaupt nicht.
Als es im späteren Laufe der Handlung endlich mal um anderen Themen ging, wurden diese bedauerlicherweise sehr schnell abgefrühstückt, was ich sehr schade finde, da dort noch einiges an Potenzial gewesen wäre.
Der Roman braucht für mich, mit besonderem Bezug auf die sexuellen Handlungen eine Triggerwarnung oder zumindest ein kurzes Preface. Ich lese gerne spicy Bücher mit Kink. Das hier hatte damit fatalerweise überhaupt nichts zu tun. Dieser Roman war nichts für mich und hat mich sehr enttäuscht.

I was feeling under the weather today so all I did was lay on the sofa and read books. I finished all the books in this series back to back (and backwards *lol). I didn't quite enjoy this one as much as I did Queen's Move. I think the heroine's behavior for the first 50% was a tad on the bipolar side. The whole back and forth "I hate my husband" to "I'm loyal to my husband" thing made me want to smack her upside the head. Aside from that, this book was a great read. No OW or OM drama. Hot rough sex. Insta-love. Over the top alpha hero.

This was a tale as old as time... Big bad mafia cartel dude, thinks the lovely wife of another big bad mafia cartel dude should be his instead... so, he kidnaps the object of his obsession in a rain of bullets and carnage...
There were good aspects to this book.
The Hero is completely dedicated to the heroine so there are no O/W scenes although it more like obsessed.
He is an anti-hero. Although he is good to the heroine, he is also unbalanced and not a good man.
She is also married to someone else when they meet but refuses to cheat, although it depends where you cross the line of cheating.
It is a bit dark and does have violence.
