Note: this is a review of the series so far. I'm currently onto volume 3
So far this has been enjoyable and, in my opinion, underrated manga. The mysteries of the world in this series has kept me engaged throughout. The absence of humans, enigmatic feeling of the world, and the general feeling forces much bigger than the characters is at play here reminded me a bit of reading and watching Land of the Lustrous for the first time (a masterpiece of manga imo and definitely worth your time if you've never read it). It has the whole a child and their (insert creature here) trope going on, but it does this well.
Also, I can't really understand the reviews that criticise the art. Though it isn't the absolute best art i've ever seen in a manga, I thought it was generally very good. The backgrounds were often highly detailed and interesting, the designs of characters/machines were distinct and good and the cover art looks great. It does have a "sketchy" style in most panels, but that isn't an issue for me personally and it's nothing compared to the first few volumes of AoT or the style used throughout the Beastars manga.
Overall, a solid read. An 8/10 for me.

Maybe like 3.5 stars. I was immediately intrigued by the premise cause I just love stories about lonely worlds. It kind of delivered on that, and it definitely picked up in the second half. I think it left me intrigued enough to want to continue.

When I picked this up, I was expecting something along the lines of Juana and the Dragonewt's Seven Kingdoms or Somali and the Forest Spirit, and yeah they're kinda similar, but the pace is so fast in this one! Poor Shii just can't seem to catch a break! The world building is very interesting and I'd really love to know what happened to the humans. The art is clear and easy to read. Altogether, a well-done, interesting story. Can't wait to see what happens next!
