This is the second book in the series by Colleen Coble, and I loved it just as much as the first one. Coble is great at packing the punch with mystery, intrigue and touching romance. I honestly think that Colleen Coble is making my list of favorite authors. I've only read two of her books so far, and cant wait for more.
Genre: Mystery, Suspense, Thriller, Christian Fiction.
My Rating: 4 Stars.
Recommendation: 16+ up.
My favorite character/s: Ellie is an interesting character in how she treats her sister's disappearance, and how she treated Grayson: seeing as he thought her sister had left, and yet she was friendly because he was a friend's relative.
My Verse for Ellie is Psalm 30:5
For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
My thoughts: I have read a few of Colleen Coble's books although this one was the first one that is a full-length novel that I have read by her. It was fast paced and kept me guessing how it would end. I enjoyed The House at Saltwater Point, but it seemed to end abruptly, too fast, and almost rushed at the end. It was well written until the last two chapters that it seemed rushed. Otherwise, it was a great summer read.

Another fantastic read by Colleen Coble! She has really upped the suspense with this one, it was definitely a page turner!
I thought her main characters were well defined, as they usually are. They both had really interesting pasts and backstories. I actually wish some of their past hurts had gotten more resolved, rather than just neatly tied up at the end.
Another great thing about the characters was that our favorite Lavender Tides couple, from the first book of the series, return and have a good amount of time in the story. I love them, so I was happy to get to read about what they were up to!
This book definitely had a new level of suspense! There were twists and turns that kept you guessing until the very end. Plus, all the plot twists worked together and the plot stayed solid, rather than reading a bunch of random plots. Every time I sat down to read it I was absorbed, and didn't want to get up! I was pleasantly surprised to find out that my theories were (mostly) incorrect, and I didn't figure out who did it until the very end!
Terrorist and navy/army/coastguard are usually things that aren't interesting to me. However, this had a more unique spin on it and I found myself liking it!
There were two cons to this book for me:
- God and Jesus was not incorporated throughout the book, unlike some of Coble's other books. Talk of God and prayer didn't come in until the very end, at which point it kind of felt stuffed in there.
-In the beginning you are introduced to a barrage of characters. I found myself having a bit of trouble keeping up. I would highly recommend reading the Hope Beach series before reading this one, as there is a lot of character cross over in the beginning. It's a bit embarrassing, but with so many characters, I actually had to look back to figure who the person who "did it" was, because I had trouble keeping everyone straight.
All in all, a rocky start that just gets better and better in this page turning suspense, almost thriller, novel. I loved returning to Lavender Tides; this is a series you don't want to miss! I'm looking forward to the next Lavender Tides novel, coming in January 2019.
3.5 stars from me. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves a clean romance and a good suspense!

I love Colleen Coble’s books. I often think I have them figured out and then they end in a way I never predicted. That was mostly true of this story but I struggled to like this book.
Ellie Blackmore was not a character I related to or liked. She tried to come across tough and independent but that not the character vibe I got. She was too set on clearing her sister to believe she might be capable of criminal activity.
I liked Grayson but not like I have the other leading male roles in Colleen’s other books. I don’t think he totally processed the realization that he was adopted or that he has other siblings that he has the opportunity to get to know.
Lastly, I was not a fan of the Asian twist to this book. It does follow the View from Rainshadow Bay with the Asian connection but this causes the book to fall flat for me.
I am excited to read the 3 book in this series but I have lower expectations after this one.

I liked this mystery. For some reason, I just couldn't connect with the characters and I thought the plot was a little outlandish. I really like Colleen Coble and enjoy her cozy Christian mysteries. This one just didn't grab me like some of her other mysteries have. I'll probably still read the next book in the series.

4 ⭐️ I was surprised by this one! A coworker lent this to me, and I randomly picked it up. It was a very easy read! This story is a mix of being a murder mystery, love story, and familial challenges. The saying “such a small world” is the epitome of this book. Overall, I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more of Colleen Coble’s work.
Coble is an author I really like and this book is a good example of why. This book works as a stand-alone, but is part of a series. It has a good bit of action, suspense and for this story, it's not heavy on faith. This means it works for me to share with those who are totally lost about what Christian fiction can be. Grayson and Ellie were good characters, and I enjoyed the story. I do want to read the whole series.
