There is no such thing as a happy place. Because when you are happy, everywhere is a happy place. And when you are sad, everywhere is a sad place.

It was enjoyable in the first half, but then it just fell flat after that. I can’t understand what message the author was trying to relay. Phoebe was devastated because her husband cheated on her; then, she keeps flirting and ogling with someone else’s husband. Why is Phoebe such an entitled person? And why does she talk as if she’s such a deep person? She’s such a bitch, honestly.

Lila was my favorite though. She was so flawed but unapologetic about being herself. I didn’t like Phoebe except for her moments with Lila. The girl just makes this whole book tolerable. Without her, I would’ve thrown the book on the wall out of spite.

"The Wedding People" really took me by surprise. I was intrigued by the plot description (and the cover) but honestly wasn't expecting too much. I defended wasn't expecting so many beautiful lines that really hit the spot. There were just so many relatable moments, and if there's one thing I love it's books about regular people with regular internal struggles. That's exactly what this book delivered. I really enjoyed Pheobe as the protagonist and loved that I couldn't decide whether or not to like Lila.
The only critique I have is that it took a bit of a cliché turn. I think if it hadn't been for that specific plotline, I would have enjoyed "The Wedding People" even more. It just felt a bit too convenient and predictable to be realistic anymore, which was a bit of a bummer.
(And Gary was honestly just a bit too boring)
Nevertheless, it was funny and sad and made me feel things, so I can't really complain too much. Overall, I had a great time with Alison Espach's writing.
