I read this book at the beach with low expectations, and it kind of met those expectations. I applauded the book for tackling serious and complicated subject matter and appreciated the central coming of age plot but the romance left much to be desired. I think most of my issues with the novel lie in cringy descriptions of character and canned “desire” lines peppered throughout to remind us that the Mc finds Augustus soo attractive. I had trouble buying into the damaged ml trope I was being fed. I also felt like more could have been done with the dads storyline and it felt a bit dropped by the end.

This book was sweet, but it was a little depressing. I liked Gus, Janurary, and the cast of supporting characters.

This book was okay but not my favorite. I found January to be unpleasant and Gus was boring. I enjoy enemies to lovers but the build up was non existent.

Such a good book. My favorite out of Emily Henry’s books. Her writing is like literature, it’s just beautiful the way she describes things. The story was nice and cute, and it had a nice balance of cute and spicy. Loved both the characters and the way they developed.

I thought this was going to be a light, fluffy, first read of the year kind of thing. It wasn't. I laughed, I cried, I stayed up until 2 AM finishing it (what is sleep, anyway?). I couldn't put it down.

This is not a beach read, but that made me love it that much more.

i enjoyed this. i was scared that finally reading emily henry, it wouldn’t live up to the hype but this was a really lovely love story.
i loved that they were writers and they spent the plot trying to write in each other’s genres, whilst both trying to work through their own grief. despite all of this they grew and changed but became perfect imperfect versions of who they already were.
the spice was pretty good and there was some pretty writing in there too. it was a quick and easy read, with emotions but not heart-wrenching.
