"I know that she returns to the labyrinth often. Sometimes we go together; sometimes she goes alone. The quiet and the solitude attract her strongly. In them she hopes to find what she needs. It worries me. 'Don't disappear,' I tell her sternly. 'Do not disappear.' She makes a rueful, amused face. 'I won't,' she says. 'We can't keep rescuing each other,' I say. 'It's ridiculous.' She smiles. It is a smile with a little sadness in it. But she still wears the perfume --- the first thing I ever knew of her --- and it still makes me think of Sunlight and Happiness."

I don't REALLY know how to feel about this, mainly because part of me thinks this whole book was a metaphor for SOMETHING and that makes it a lot more interesting, but the other part of me also thinks this book is just exactly what it says it is and that makes it a lot less interesting. I guess all in all I just expected there to be more to this.
I wouldn't necessarily say this was a bad book, though. I guess, moreso, it was just one I read and enjoyed reading (but not incredibly much) and will probably forget most of in a week. The mystery plot was interesting, but I think the reveal of the mystery was honestly a little boring considering how central it was to the story. I did love Piranesi, though, he was great. And I don't really know what else to say about this right now.
I might need to go on reddit later and see people's theories about this. It might make me gain a better appreciation of this book.

Bonus quotes (both include SPOILERS!!) 🏛️
"A wave of sadness and helplessness washed over me. I wanted to say that the People of the Alcove had not been murdered by Arnes-Sayles (though I have no evidence to support that assertion and the probability is that at least one of them was). Mostly I wanted Raphael to come away from them so that I could stop thinking of them the way she thought of them --- as murdered --- and go back to thinking of them the way I always had before --- as good, and noble, and peaceful."
"I remembered how Raphael had wondered which of the People of the Alcove had been murdered and how the simple fact of her posing the question had made the whole World seem a darker, sadder Place. Perhaps that is what it is like being with other people. Perhaps even people you like and admire immensely can make you see the World in ways you would rather not. Perhaps that is what Raphael means."

This book was almost a DNF for me, only because I read a review that said it starts to make sense at the 70 page mark, did I continue to read it. Thank goodness I did! This was such a fantastic and in some ways heartbreaking book. I am obsessed with Piranesi’s character. The way he views the world as beautiful despite the abuse he suffered is so powerful.
