I read 56% of this book when I realised life is too short to be wasted on books I don't find interesting at all. Every event from this book made me think: "I don't care about this." I wanted to like this book since Haruki Murakami reccomend it, as he is one of my favourite authors, but it appears that this one is just not for me. DNF

DID NOT FINISH: 46%

Wasn’t too invested / wasn’t in the right head space to read. Also was focusing on another book for a book club and didn't go back to this one.

Whie I enjoyed the book, I found it hard to understand the meaning of Natsuko wanting to have a child. At first, it seemed as if she wanted a child because of her stagnation in her career. However, as the story went on, there were many different reasons why she wanted to have a child that were presented to the audience. I do believe the story did a great job with telling the struggles of a society where single motherhood is portrayed in a negative manner. This was shown through the reactions of Makiko and Sengawa. I enjoyed the way the author talked about the female body and the different journeys women partake in as they age. Overall, this was a pretty interesting book.
