- don’t read if you’re depressed
- organic, raw feel of womanhood
- middle portion harped on the donor birth child perspective a little longer than I needed to understand it
- biological
- loved the lack of men
- sisterhood
- final chapter feels very misplaced; whole book tone was a little datker/pessimistic/grim/realistic then sudden hard pivot in last pages to chipper and happy perfect ending - didn’t feel like the same book
- women actually don’t need men at all

Incredible book. I hate the ending. 5 stars, angrily.
People are willing to accept the pain and suffering of others, limitless amounts of it, as long as it helps them to keep on believing in whatever it is that they want to believe. -Yuriko, ch. 15

This book was good but I didn’t pay enough attention to it. It will definitely need a reread at some point. The relationships between women in this book are so real and raw, it’s beautiful to read. Each character has so much depth even though you are learning about them only through the narrator.

I'm not sure that I fully understand every single aspect of this book and all of the choices the author made, but I had a really good time reading it, and I liked it a lot! I think the power of the strong female relationships throughout the book are really impactful, and the way the author reflects the downfall of their relationships in their way of life as well drove the point home. I think these kinds of conversations about having children and why people want to have children are very important, and Kawakami wrote the community response to Natsu's exploration very realistically. Overall, I really enjoyed this novel, and am looking forward to picking up more Kawakami in the future!
