How come every time I felt like I was nearing the middle of the book or the end I would be surprised by the fact that I was nowhere near it.

Also the scream I scrumpt when Feyre finds Rhys in the spooky woods by SMELLING HER COOCHIE ON HIM?

I struggled so hard with the middle of this book. The beginning was hard but carried the plot nicely and the end?? I was obsessed. I didn’t think I’d enjoy this series but I made it to the end and I’m so excited to start the third book.

I liked book 2 MUCH more than book 1, there are aspects of this book I wish were less rigid. Also I basically cringe everytime they say “female”

After the first book, I was a little nervous about it still not holding up to its reputation but holy shit, this was like the real start to the series. Loved the relationships and all the craziness at the end of the book, I have a couple book club books to get through before I can power through the next one, but I can't wait.

I think that the heteronormative system that sjm establishes just really got in the way of me enjoying the book. I didn’t really expect it in a fae setting (why establish sexism in a world you made up if you’re not going to engage with it critically??) Also it feels a little weird to me that sjm portrays the fae as a relatively sexually liberated society, yet “whore” carries such weight as an insult. Again, it could be interesting if she engages with it critically but it just seems a little shallow as is. Having read two of the books now, the books are really starting to lack tension/stakes for me. Everything always goes right for Feyre and none of the relationships have any chance to build (there’s potential for more tension in the relationships, but the potential is ultimately wasted). Any “tension” is based on silly miscommunications which honestly made me dislike the characters more. I’m begging sjm to let her characters have flaws!! Like how are they all perfect? It’s boring!

some of the dialogue is cringe but overall easily digestible. if i didn’t mentally replace “mate” with soulmate/partner/wife/etc i wouldn’t have been able to finish. idk why but that is a major ick for me. there’s also a LOT of
convenience to excuse behavior, maybe would have liked for more character development and accountability

Impressive. I found this book to be much better than book one. We have here a love triangle, Tamlin how will you redeem yourself...things just went downhill so fast. Anywho, I'm not sad. I'll always root for a good antihero lol.  Boy does Rhysand deliver, that entrance woooo and we get to learn more about their bond. Feyre undergoes so much growth mentally and as a character. The world building had me in pieces. I wish I were an artist to draw everything. Sigh. Jumping into book 3 asap.

The second book in the ACOTAR series definitely didn’t disappoint but it was very difficult to stay attached. There’s lots of build up with no climax until the very end and it’s a great ending but I feel like Maas spent too much time building up to a single moment that’s only two chapters of the entire 624 paged book. Looking forward to the third book!
