Eh... I didn't roll my eyes while reading this book as much as I did the other recent installments? On the positives, there actually was a plot. And I only counted 1 shitkicker reference. But... all of the characters were pretty unlikeable. I know this is a bad guy with the heart of gold trope, but the changes weren't believable. Even the characters who I like from prior books are really their worst selves. Layla, V, Qhuinn all make really bad decisions with even worse motivations.

first thing I have to say is I enjoyed the book. Layla and Xcor yay finally the ending I want along with Quinn and Blay. I'm worried about V and Jane.
I already starting to dislike throh (spelling?) and that damn book.

Kind of all over the place.
I love these books even though they're cluttered with overwrought descriptions and over-the-top emotional outbursts. Very soapy, but definitely addictive. This latest episode has some interesting side stories, some "huh?" character choices, and some melt-your-face-off sexytimes, but it lacks something. I can't quite put my finger on it. Regardless, I look forward to the next book!

I just couldn't get through this one. We've been waiting so long to see how Layla could be together with Xcor and it's resolved so hastily and in such an unlikely manner at the start of the book...what's the point of continuing on?

I just can't with this book right now. I put of reading Blood Vow until this week and thought, hey I'm in the world i'm ready for The Chosen. Which, honestly, I wasn't too sure of. I didn't really love the last book and I have never really liked Layla. So I now realize I don't like the Chosen in general. Because I didn't love Selena either and those are really the only two we truly got a lot of. I really just wanted to read about Qhuinn's reaction and was dying for Tohr to find about that he and Xcor were brothers. So i'll just go down the list.
The bad:
Throe. I don't care. Mostly skipped him, just I like I have done with the Lessers all along.
Assail. wtf? I mean really, do we care that much about him? Nope.
V. Man I hate putting V in the bad category. Top fave brother for me with Qhuinn. I just feel like his story is on loop. Like the only reason we kept Jane around was because she is a brilliant Dr. and the brothers really needed that. Because this boring drama fest of these two not caring about being together, or just taking their "extended" life for granted is getting real old. Real old. I honestly couldn't think straight when I though he was going to die. But this whole cheating thing...ugh. The next book better be his damn second story and it better get right.
Layla & Xcor. Just meh. I never really cared for their relationship and still don't. I mean it's a romance series underneath it all so there has to be a HEA for the most part, which I'm fine with. These two just don't do it for me.
Tres. Give me a goddamn break. 1 month of the worst heartbreak a bonded male can go through and he just throws it to the wind cuz this girl is "exactly" Selena, but not. I mean I get it..there is something happening here. Like JM/Darius I'm sure. But whatever. I just don't care right now, too soon after his book. Give it some time. Such a disappointment with the Shadows in general..I used to love them :(
The Good:
Qhuinn. I mean really, what did anyone expect from this guy?! He always spins out of control before someone, I mean Blay, talks sense into him. He is extreme. always has been, probably always will be. But when he lets down his guard and actually lets people in..he's all in. I think his storyline was pretty accurate and I would have been disappointed if he was all reasonable and shit.
Blay. So happy he stood up for himself and stood his ground. He is kinda meh for me most of the time, but I do believe that he and Qhuinn are perfect for each other. Loved seeing his parents again as well.
Tohr & Xcor. Well, I was pretty damn sick of Tohr to be honest. I know I shouldn't be. How do you expect someone to get over the death of their bonded mate & child. And a mate that had been together for so long, not just an "insta-mate". And I'm glad we got to see his final break, and I don't think it was out of character for him to lose his shit on Layla. Depression is f'ing debilitating for humans lol. Actually happy that learning of a true brother brought some healing to his life. And seeing what his break almost cost him. The Brotherhood & Autumn.
Xcor. I'm so happy that his redemption story is finally over. It took way too long to get here. I'm good with the way it played out and all the back story we got on him to make it truly a redemption, not just a change in character cuz bonding.
Generally I don't think the BoB needed to move into the mansion. I mean...why do they ALL have to live together. The now non-trainees don't live in the mansion. And how goddamn big is this place anyway lol. But damn. Way to leave me hanging with my man V. He better get his shit together!

The only saving grace this book has is Xcor becoming a better man.
