this is like a VERY strong 2. so so so much happened in this book and maybe 1/3 of it. MAYBE 1/4 of it needed to happen. nobody (especially rin) makes any fucking sense
here. this book drags on for about 300 more pages than it should. I don't give a fuck. (mind u this is a re-read).

(5) Ten million out of five stars but holy shit, I can never read this again because I prefer to not be hollowed out from the inside like a Jack O’ Lantern by Rebecca Kuang’s beautiful/terrible words.

I liked the plot. It was interesting and engaging. It was very fast-paced so it was easy to go through. 
I liked that it was clear to see that war had affected the characters, though I found it annoying that Rin kept trusting people she had no business trusting. With the amount of backstabbing, she experienced I am astonished that is she still alive and as trusting as she is.
A lot of the things that make Rin a tragic character are all the deaths her friends and allies face, yet a lot of the time it is her fault. She is incredibly stubborn and very proud, and it makes her a bad general, and a bad leader in general.
I enjoyed the story but I kept getting annoyed at Rin, and I don't think that was intentional.
