This is a duology book so its a cliffhanger. It started frustrating becos reign was a serious doormat and let people walk all over him especially santigo’s friend kingston. And the fact that santigo just let him bully reign was fucked up. Then they hooked up, all was sweet and shit then it got intensed that santigo was talking about marriage while they only knew each other over the summer. That was kinda unhinged and intensend of santigo ngl. He kinda brought it up a couple of times including the how many kids does reign want. Reign got bullied again during their parents wedding and santigo just froze without beating the living shit out of kingston. Then reign just quitely pulling out and emotionally distancing. While santigo went to the college orientation over the weekend leaving reign home, reign just ran away. So thats where the story ended for now. I get a feeling that santigo would feel resentment towards reign for the next book so im imagining enemies to lovers, second chance or whatever. Honestly, if santigo is mad with reign i would understand. Reign knew santi kinda has abandonment issue. Also, i couldnt get over the fact that they were never got caught hooking up when they were home?! Like they werent even careful about it. Thats crazy. I was expecting them to get caught eventually. I hope the story will take over when they’re older than what they are now. I was gonna dbf it because of the age thing. They were both 18 but i stuck through it hoping that the duet will be a few years after. i will be reading the next one.

Oh my heart! I kept skipping who my heart was breaking for.Reign and Santiago were both so lovable in different ways.Reign was pulled from his happy life to a world he didnt fit in,he entered Santiago's life like a tornado & turned it upside down & broke down his walls.Reign is one possessive MC & nothing is going to stop him from what he wants.Their love was all consuming.Even though the odds are against them; they are young,it's first love for both of them & they are stepbrothers i need them to fight for each other,i need them to get their HEA.
This was part 1 of this duet, so it was safe to say a cliffhander was expected.Even though you could see what was coming at the end, i still was pleading that I was wrong.I need part two! I need my heart to mend. They are going to stay in my head until I get book two.Such an emotional story.

Santiago • Reign

….

“Because that’s what summer nights by the land rig, surrounded by cicadas, engulfed in the humidity mean to me. Forever.”

….

If there’s one author out there who keeps me on my toes, it’s Addison. I need more of Reign and Santi.

Nevermore is the first part of a duet. I vibed immediately with the storyline but didn’t expect to vibe so emotionally with the characters. That’s one thing I learned - Addison always takes it up a notch - taking all the characterizations we perfectly know while being a binge reader - and making her own little tweaks that make her boys even more special.

One with an open honest heart. The other with a hurt guarded one. One soothing. The other opening up. Two worlds collide into one. But how much of YOU can you sacrifice to survive a world that’s not part of your reality while loving so deep?

If I could describe the love in this book - it’s like a warm summer night. It wasn’t instant, but when it hit, it was real, it burned. And I wish for one - for it to burn us alive in part II <3. By the land rig… all grown up… forever.

If you read this book for only one scene. Let it be - the piano one. I left a tiny piece of my heart beside it.

How soon is now? *cry me a river*

….

“Hi.” // “This isn’t an intro course called How To Ride 101, this is a crash course in Hold On For Your Fucking Life.” // “Then you’re even worse than I thought.” // “Statement or a question, Reign?” // “Not when I have something highly entertaining to captivate my thoughts.” //  “It’s just because there’s so much of him.” // “He’s like the Daphne flowers I once plucked when I was younger.” // “My cold, cracked, crooked heart burns for him.” // “Maybe it was dirt poor, maybe it wasn’t the best, but it was right.” // “You’re my best friend…” …

2.5🌶️

Addison Beck has done it again! I’m a sucker for a possessive stepbrother and went into this with super high expectations – I was not disappointed at all. This is part 1 of a duet and to say I am excited for part 2 would be a complete understatement.

Reign is the absolute sweetest! I love his gentleness – even when it causes others to mock him it is so beautiful to see how his kindness never really leaves. And Santi – this man made me want to smack him a time or two, but I just love how he melts for Reign. Even when he’s being super possessive and rough, there is an underlying vulnerability that only Reign can bring out in him. These boys are complete opposites but it works for them in ways I wasn’t expecting.

I’ve loved everything I’ve ever read by Addison Beck and this is no exception! I highly recommend this book!

ARC Review - Nevermore by Addison Beck

This book is the first part of “The Cruel Love” duet, it’s less than 200 pages but sets up the universe that Reign and Santiago live in nicely. Nevermore is set during a few months in summer and could be classed as a summer romance turned into something more until things happen that will break your heart. It will make you want more and it’s a pain waiting for the next book because I need to know what will happen.

The two main characters are Reign and Santiago who after their parents' marriage, become step-brothers who don’t necessarily like each other at first. But with time they get to know each other and the attraction starts to build until one day it’s the only thing they know and feel.

There is something calculating but also innocent about Santiago and to be honest, at first I didn’t like him. But with the longer the book went on, the more I could see the scared young man underneath and I could understand his situation. Reign on the other hand is a softy and even a bit naive but I also liked that he grew a bit of a backbone when needed be.

I am interested to see what part Santiago’s friends Kingston and Hudson will play in the next book. With Kingston being a major a$$hat, I feel like he will drag Santiago into some shit but hopefully Hudson will be the voice of reason. But also I have zero clue when and where the next book will be set, so I could be way off course.

As always Addison knows how to push all the feels into a story without it becoming too much and that is a fine line that not everyone can do.

Reign: He takes a step and I realize that, even though we’re the same height, it feels like he towers over me. How can he manage to look down at me when we’re face-to-face? He infiltrates my personal space, getting far too close for comfort, and the smell of him nearly knocks me on my ass. It’s crisp and clean, heady even, and my body sways closer without my permission.

Santi: He’s caught off-guard, vulnerable, and it’s the best time to strike. Not to hurt him or fuck with him but to see that fire I saw in him. All I want is to strip him bare, tear him apart, and see what’s left underneath the cowering surface.
...
Bringing him here is just another way to lower his defenses. Take him somewhere he feels comfortable and get into his face. Push and push and push until I get what I want.
Him.

Main Characters:
5/5 - Santiago Torres: 18yo, he/him, nickname: Santi.
Soon to be a college student, he's prickly on the outside but gooey on the inside (only for Reign). He can be mean when he feels threatened, has daddy issues, he lost his mother when he was 16. He loves classical music, especially piano pieces which he also plays, and it calms him. He also loves watching Reign.
5/5 Reign : 18yo, he/him, petname: Querido
Has freckles and a eidetic memory, loves to whittle and country music, has a beautiful Southern accent and is socially anxious. He lived with his mother in a trailer park before moving to the mansion. His father died when he was six years old. He loves cars and is considering working as a mechanic.

I'm normally not one for duets or trilogies, but this month has been refreshing for me! I guess with the right author and story, I can read anything lol...
As always, Addison Beck brings us a beautifully riveting story.
Santi & Reign were an absolute delight to read. All that angst was completely delicious.
Their chemistry was explosive! I love how much they open up to each other and navigate all the obstacles from their past and present together.
What I loved most was how utterly obsessed Santi became with Reign... it felt special.
This is part one of A Cruel Love Duet, I don't think I'm going to survive when part two comes out. Still I can’t wait to find out what happens next for Reign & Santiago.

Reign: It’s just because there’s so much of him. Every time he walks into a room, he sucks all the life out of it. Not because he’s draining or boring, but due to the fact that he commands so much attention, it’s impossible to give it to anything else. He’s this godly figure—an eighteen year old that’s wise beyond his years—and his presence makes me want to tuck my tail between my legs and whine. I’ve never felt this way before and it’s entirely annoying. I have hero worship for someone I barely know who’s the same age as me. I didn’t think that could be a thing.

Santiago: “Santiago, what are we really doing here?”
I don’t know what possesses me to swim towards him and place each hand on either shoulder. I pull him against my chest, one hand wandering to his stomach where I can feel him quiver against me. Fuck. This was a mistake.
Touching him was an error so great, I feel like an idiot. Because it’s almost like I’m in a trance. Like I’m zeroed in on the feel of his body pressing into mine. As if all I want is to keep touching the broken, pathetic boy until he breaks for me.
My lips press against the juncture of his throat, my teeth dragging up and up until I reach his ear. His breaths are heavy as I dart my tongue out to taste his skin. It tastes like saltwater and sweat but it also has a quality to it that drags me in. Something sweet and innocent.
Something that tastes a lot like mine.

Favorite character?
Reign

This is my 7th book by Addison Beck and my 2nd book by Maddison Devlin.
Enjoyment: 5/5

✨✨✨✨Quote✨✨✨✨

Reign: I can’t deny the way my body scorched with heat when he undressed in front of me. I’ve never looked at a guy and just… wanted. But like everything else he does, Santiago is pure perfection. Cut, defined, and shaped out of marble. An almost ethereal beauty that steals your breath and your common sense. Maybe that’s why I’m kissing him back.

!! I don't equate fiction stories to real life. It's a matter of personal taste and what you are willing or want to tolerate in the books you read. We all have different opinions and preferences when it comes to the kind of books we enjoy, so it's important to respect and remember that it's just a book!!

This book was just so beautiful that I don’t know where to start or end. When I discovered Addison when I read Their Ball Boy, I never knew what I was in for because every SINGLE one of her books have had be hook.

Santiago and Reign were just so amazing together. From the moment that they shook hands when they met, I knew they were going to be something special.

Can I just say I want Kingston to get what he deserves for hurting Reign multiple times? And I absolutely love Hudson from the moment he went to help him from the pool incident.

I had so many favorite scenes but the one that seriously made me swoon was the piano scene. That was just too adorable.

I also have a feeling that Santiago’s father knows what’s going on, especially from the conversation in his office. That conversation is what made the ending happen I’m sure.

I really loved how Santiago grew as well where he wasn’t so grumpy with Reign once the two began to have a bond. Also, both guys began to grow where they began to find themselves. The self discovery was everything from the start.

I really loved how close Reign and his mother were as well. I also loved his little hobby that even Santiago began to love watching him whittle.

The ending. I knew something was going to happen but that was not what I was expecting. I cannot wait for the next book in this lovely duet. Even though it broke me, it was so good!

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.

Taken from his simple life and thrust into the upper echelon of society after his mother's surprise marriage, Reign goes from one kind of life struggle to another. From worrying about bill payments to worrying about gossip and fitting in with the one percenters.

After the death of his mother two years prior, Santiago is shut down and cold. He doesn't feel much, unless it's guilt, and then its overwhelming. Meeting his new stepbrother and seeing the fire he hides behind the meek exterior, Santi becomes obsessed with Reign. First as a project, a toy, but soon, obsession turns to possession and then, much to his dismay, love.

But sometimes love isn't enough.

Gah! This book, it reeled me in so fast and I devoured it in a day. I can't wait for book two.
