As a lot of people have mentioned, the premise of this book had the makings to be a absolute banger- however its fallen short.
Our two main characters, everything just seemed pointless. The backstory was not well filled in, I didn't really believe their love story. The ending, felt a bit out of left field, but the very end, I will say, I am glad happened (to not spoil anything, I will leave it there).
Overall, very whimsical writing with a plot that had the drive to be amazing. I still liked it enough to finish and if it wasn't for the prose itself, I would have rated it lower...

This book was beautifully written. I loved Evelyn and Arden. I loved the way the book would have flashback chapters, this kept me hooked and slowly built up more understanding of the characters and there everlasting love. The ending was not what I was expecting. I almost hoped for more in the last chapter, but i'm glad it ended with them meeting again. And I loved that they put in Gracie. I like to think that Evelyn and Arden can now grow old together like they had always longed for, and that although they may not remember their previous lives, they still feel like soulmates who have loved for an enternity.

I really like the mechanics of this book. The way that information is revealed over the course of the story is slow enough to keep you engaged without it ever feeling like a drag. The relationship at the heart of the story is frustrating in the best way. The audiobook specifically made me want to continue listening all the way through.
When I say I couldn't put this book down I mean that I started it in the afternoon and then stayed up until 2 am to finish it. This concept was so unique and I understand the comparisons to Addie LaRue. Some of the conversations between Evelyn and Arden had me in tears for the tragedy of it. I really loved both characters and the need for answers kept me going.
I have two main complaints. This book was barely fantasy or magical realism until the end. It just felt like besides the fact they were reincarnating that they just lived in whatever era they were currently in like normal people. While the story was lovely, it just didn't feel like a fantasy novel to me.
And this is where my second complaint came in. The ending and the explanation for why they kept reincarnating and having to kill each other before their 18th birthday felt incongruous with the rest of the book. The heavy fantasy elements didn't pair well with the mundanity of the lives they lived when not killing each other. I think we had one hint with The Mother showing up in the trenches and that was it.
Despite these complaints, I really did love this book. I absolutely devoured it and fell for these characters really quickly. I just think that the author wrote herself into a corner with Evelyn not being able to remember certain things and it caused the disconnected feeling between the majority of the book and the ending.
