Il libro era lì, in alto nello scaffale, da tempo, comprato poco dopo la prima uscita, eppure minaccioso con i suoi coltelli sulla copertina. Non avevo coraggio di leggerlo, temevo di dover affrontare delle verità dolorose che mi avrebbero molto rattristata. Mi sbagliavo. Il libro è bellissimo e contiene delle verità squallide, agghiaccianti, terribili, da far vergognare di essere italiani, ma ora non sono rattristata, sono indignata. Però so che non è inevitabile far parte del sistema e che conoscere e capire è il primo passo per vivere degnamente e combattere. Come dice l'autore nella conclusione "Sapere diviene una necessità. L'unica possibile per considerarsi ancora uomini degni di respirare".

Foi difícil terminar este livro. Demasiadas personagens, demasiadas organizações e casos, uma ação dispersa no tempo e no espaço que tornou este processo de leitura mais moroso que o costume. No entanto, a agressividade e a sinceridade crua com que este livro foi escrito compensa. Os relatos do impensável mostram-nos um mundo para lá da superfície, um mundo podre e cheio de subversões para o qual passamos a olhar com outros olhos. É admirável - a certo ponto até mesmo incompreensível - como é que o escritor se expôs e teve a coragem heróica de mostrar estas realidades da forma mais honesta e transparente possível. Aconselho vivamente. Quero voltar a lê-lo daqui por uns anos.

Probably in the region of 4.5 stars. A unique way of writing non-fiction, which is (largely anecdotal) history, lyrical memoir writing and historical philosophy in the same relatively short volume. As such, it’s hard to form a real conclusion on anything that’s said, but this is exactly what Saviano wants, showing you how the ‘Camorrah’, whatever it is, functions as a kind of cipher for the hidden global economy. This nihilism which subordinates us all to systems won’t be for everybody, and can be deeply unsatisfying if understandable.
