4.5⭐️ I desperately wish I had known there was a sapphic T Kingfisher book sooner! AND it's a fairy tale retelling? perfection

Best reimagining of The Snow Queen I've ever read.

Use of horror tag is kind of borderline. It isn't gratuitous, but it's also kind of a necessary part of the journey.

Lovely f/f romance that felt organic and true.

Part of me desperately wishes this had been longer so that I could have MORE. I want to read reams of Gerda, Janna, and Mousebones's adventures! But the rest of me sees that this story is perfectly scaled to fit, and anything more would be needless bloat.

READ: 12/02/24

I read this far too quickly for a book club. I was simply captivated by Kingfisher's fairytale prose and the cold winter vibes of the story.

We follow Gerta, a young girl of sixteen who goes on a quest to save her friend, Kay, form the Snow Queen. On her way she encounters trials and unexpected allies.

It's so whimsical, sapphic, cold and also amazingly quick to read. This might be my favorite of T Kingfisher's fairytale retellings. I plan on reading the original Snow Queen soon, but even without the original story for context, I was in love. I can feel the reading slump end.

It appears I have a thing for Kingfisher's fairy tale retellings.
