I really wanted to enjoy this, since I love Agatha Christie have read all of her works. But I found it slow and predictable, and the characters were fairly flat. I would have loved a few more surprises, twists, and turns!

Marie Benedict's The Queens of Crime was part of my 2025 Most Anticipated List, and it did not disappoint! High-powered female crime writers solving a real-world murder... What else could you want?

I did struggle to stay focused, but that's because I don't read tons of mysteries, and I literally just finished a different mystery for book club. I love Benedict's writing style, and the setting was so beautifully done.

This quote, I think, was superb and makes for a great no context quote to use again and again.
It's a devil's bargain, but what other kind can be struck when one is negotiating with demons?

This wonderfully written mystery surrounding historical mystery writers was such a moving tell to read. I enjoyed the speculation of these famous authors and the possibility of them turning into crime solvers themselves base on their own “experience”.

If you like a cosy mystery with a bit more this is highly suggested.

I liked the book.  I liked the fact that these writers were all writers of characters that I watch on the BBC channel.
I thought that sometimes it was a bit long in the tooth, but for the most part, I thought it moved along.
I especially liked the fact that although this book is a work of fiction, well, after you read it, you can read the author's note and find out.

Tried this as a audiobook. It was slow and felt overly worked—as if too much time was spent on sounding posh

Cute but slow. Very Sherlock Holmes-esque, but I did struggle with the main character. Additionally the supporting characters felt very flimsy to me. I kept forgetting their names because they were peripheral in their descriptions.
