It has been over ten years since I read this book. I remember the hype when the movie came out, and the game looks really good as well (I've seen let's plays). I remember liking this series a lot when I read it at age 20-ish. Re-reading at age 31, the whole dating-a-high-schooler thing is a lil weird.

As someone who loves the film, it's taken me far too many years to finally pick up the comic which inspired it. This is the first volume in the series (covering up to the
defeat of the first of seven evil ex's
) and it was lovely to drop back into the story's humour. It's been almost exactly adapted into the film and that was a rather wonderful change. So many of the things that made the film such a classic have been directly lifted from these pages.

A bit of a difficult read as a library ebook due to the formatting so I'm glad I had seen the film to know what was going on in some parts.

It was fun, read it bc I was burnt out and graphic novels are easier for me to digest, idk if it’s my thing tho

Like many people, I picked this book up after seeing the film but never actually read until now. The book follows Scott, an out of work musician who is going out with Knives Chau, a 17 year old school girl, at a catholic school. Who dreams of a young woman, that he discovers is actually real.

With that recap of the basic story out of the way. I really enjoyed reading the basis for the feature film. This film follows the book very closely, and ends after Scott fights Matthew Patel, there are additional details in the book I liked, such as the part with Crash and the Boys, knocking out the audience, with the final song of their set.

The characters are excellent, although Scott is pretty much a dick, but I still enjoy reading about his story.

Overall, a fun story worth a read.

I'm just getting into graphic novels, but I love this story! Fast read and really fun.

The graphic novel itself didn't bother me itself with it's depiction of Scott and Knives' relationship as every other character condemned it, but Bryan Lee O'Malley's descriptions in the author notes are foul. I still enjoyed reading a pirated copy on a whim, and I must check out the rest of the series soon! I live just over an hour outside of Toronto and it feels so weird recognizing locations in a piece of media!
