Quick and enjoyable read which hits familiar dystopian beats, but does so in ways that feel new and satisfying all the same. Reminded me a little of Snowpiercer, but vertical.

I really enjoyed the characters and the author's ability to sprinkle the story with deep metaphors and points of self-reflection. The characters live in their silo and the earth has become inhospitable, but everything starts unravelling from the very first page when Holston is contemplating his death.
The way of living and their world, which is some version of ours, hooks you. The characters are funny and courageous and strong and evil. It is a treat, though a little long for someone who reads very slowly.

Entertaining and keeps you engaged. World building is intriguing. Characters are engaging. Love that the female characters are NOT problematic!!! (what a relief!).. and frankly neither are the male characters.
Interesting topic... interesting world.. I heard the remainder of the series isn't as good, but I am still interested in seeing what happens next.

A sci-fi book about a society living underground. Secrets are revealed and societal riffs appear.

Bored & looked ahead at synopsis of books 2 & 3 in the series & realized I just didn’t care about where this story was going.
