Incredible illustrations, tons of information. I really enjoyed learning about the different levels of the canyon and environments for different animals. I understand so much more about the grand canyon now plus the book made me want to revisit a place to which I've traveled three times already.

Great non-fiction that reads like fiction about the ecosystem and geological layers of the Grand Canyon.

Very nicely detailed book about the Grand Canyon that goes through the layers, history of each one, and even animals. I learned quite a bit reading this and I would highly recommend to everyone doing a project or even those who plan to visit. Great information and great illustrations. ~Ashley

This is the first book published in this year that I've seen be so dang creative in terms of design.  I mean, cut-outs that act as a passage between now and the past??  The use of not the doublespread but the quadruplespread (whose actual design name I forget) that shows the Grand Canyon in all of its glory??  But honestly, who else could design and illustrate a book this wonderful than Jason Chin, the master of children's lit nonfiction?

What a beautiful mix of storytelling and fact-giving.  Truly, Jason Chin's watercolors illuminate the glory that is the Grand Canyon, and the way he designs the book is ingenious.  This book should find its way into every classroom, library, and bookshelf.

I love Jason Chin's books - the text is always fascinating and his realistic artwork is so detailed and intricate. I also enjoy the layout with it's layers of panels and borders with bonus info. In Grand Canyon I really like the use of the cut outs as a bridge to the past showing how what we find today on our hike comes from long ago -from marine life to layers of the earth to huge dragonflies! Very original!

This book is an educational story that follows a girl who is hiking through the Grand Canyon. It shows images of the Grand Canyon can tell us through science and understanding the layering of rock. The images show the different scientific terms that are used in Geology and how we understand what the Earth is telling us. It goes through many different parts of the Grand Canyon and you never know what you would find next as you flip through this book. It makes that connection between the scientific words and the images so that you can understand the language and identify the vocabulary needed to understand later on in the book.
