Ella Frank

3.75 AVERAGE

I jumped into this book pretty much the same way I start every Ella Frank book: post haste.

The moment Finley hit my kindle, I dropped everything and sat down to read it... And didn't stop reading til I was done.

Oh boy, this book was a treat that kept on giving. It really had it all:

There was a second-chance romance up in the mix.

There were two (or more...)  yummy men.

There were steamy scenes.

There were feels.

AND THERE WERE SURPRISES.

Put all those things together, and you get the awesomeness that was Finley.

Oh, and did I mention that to some extent, this is a second-chance romance with a Student/Teacher plot line?

Guys.

Guys.

GUYS!

I don't know about you, but that aspect got me all sorts of excited.

Let's just say, I think that the teacher angle added to the heat levels...

EXHIBIT A:

“I’m here because you told me to come home. But we both know I won’t truly be home until I’m back between your sheets, Professor”

I mean, hello.

EXHIBIT B:

"Hmm... So, what lesson are you going to teach me today, Professor?"

As he stared down at the beautiful man beneath him, Brantley wondered how he'd ever been so lucky to have him walk into his life--twice.

"I'm going to teach you how much I love you. All you have to do is lie back and pay close attention."

As with the Temptation series, I loved the dynamic between Brantley "the Professor" and Daniel "Finn". Their dialogue and interactions were spot on; I am definitely buying whatever it is they're selling. (And I'll take two, please.)

Every time I read a book by Ella Frank, I find myself saying the same thing over and over: SHE KNOWS JUST WHAT TO SAY TO MAKE YOU FEEL.

She'll make you feel happiness, heartbreak, and above all, HEAT:

“I love having you like this. It’s such a fucking rush. You under me. Just like you were always supposed to be.”

Excuse me whilst I get new underpants, as mine have seemed to burst into flames.

I'd say I was surprised that I loved this story so much, but to be honest, this is the caliber of storytelling that I've come to expect from Ella Frank. Finley had solid and consistent pacing, with deliciously alluring characters that kept me glued to my kindle from start to finish.

So whether you've read M/M or not, started Ella's Temptation series or not, or can remember Finn from the good ol' Logan & Tate days or not, there's only one thing you need to do with the upmost quickness:

1-click dis, and above all else:

This story can be enjoyed as a standalone, without having read Logan & Tate's books (the Temptation Series).

And enjoy it you shall.

4-hot-and-steamy stars, which shine bright with all the feels!

I can't wait to see what else is in store!

ALL THE STARS!!!!!!

Fuck, I've got book hangover. More coherent review after I've slept!

ETA: OK, so I got some sleep (although I still possess book hangover) and can now say a few things about why I loved this book.

MMMmmphff. I love me some Finn and Brantley. This had that similar chemistry, heat, and passion that I loved in her Trust series with Tate and Logan (But Tate and Logan still might be my book OTP from her still). And can I get an amen for that cameo at the end?! Not gonna lie, I could just keep reading about Tate and Logan and be a perfectly happy gal too!

I loved the mix of flashbacks with the present day. I thought they were very well done being seamlessly woven in to the present, to relate to what Finn and Brantley were going through. I loved getting to see the start of their relationship through the end.

I just LOVED this! Sure, I could have gone for some communication instead of them trying to stick to this whole two weeks crap (and I hate that whole "I'm making this decision for the both of us for your own good" crap), but the writing and that ending! <3 <3 <3 <3

And I'm really, really, really looking forward to Jordan and Derek, I need their story now! Because I totally need to know what happened with them in the past. Here's hoping that their story is in the works and we'll get to read more of Finn and Brantley being included since they're friends. Because HOT DAMN.

Surprising

Age gap second chance dual point of view
Standalone

Daniel Finley was abandoned by his first love seven years ago. Now Brantley has reached out and Daniel finds himself back home - angry and frustrated with the man he once loved more than anything. Can they manage to provide each with the closure they need or will they break?

Cried. Steamy. Great characters. Not normally a fan of age gap or professor student but this was engagingly written.

VERY good second chance romance.

I loved seeing the quiet side to Finn, compared to his cocky Chicago side we saw in the “temptation” series.

A lot of angst as neither got over each other, but when Finn comes back to town to “get Brantley out of his system” they find their way and decide to fight for their partnership.

Age gap, MM, professor/student

5/5 of course! It's Ella Frank!

I had some issues with this book but nothing related to the story in itself so it's a complete 5/5.
The chemistry between Finn and Brantley was just mind-blowing and so sweet! I loved it! I love Logan and Tate more but still, they were really great together. And even though there wasn't really a plot, it wasn't necessary in my opinion. More drama might have been too much.

Can't wait to read Devil's Kiss!

I derive immense pleasure from a read when the author creates a story so great, and a love story so wonderful, I’m captured from the first page to the last. Finley is that story and Brantley and Finn are that couple.

I fed from the angst and intensity this book had to offer. More than a student teacher romance, it tells a story of a love that spans many years without loosing it’s intensity. I couldn’t help but draw comparisons of their relationship to the Kahlil Gibran quote: “If you love somebody, let them go, for if they return, they were always yours. If they don't, they never were.”

The story opens with what I like to think of as, Brantley’s lovers call home. A decision he made years ago held great sacrifice, but also great consequence. Now, the time has come to face the repercussions and past he let go.

Finley appealed to all my wants as a romance reader. I was not only lost in Brantley and Finn’s story but I found my happy place in them too.

I tried to read this a few times. I think it was the back and forth in time that killed it for me. I tried really hard to get into this book and could not. At 47% I finally skipped to the epilogue and called it finished.

4.5 stars
I loved Finn and Brantley. I LOVED Derek and Jordan so excited to see what's in store for them. I was expecting it to be a little more heart-wrenching honestly. But I'm not going to complain about angst-light

The last 25% of this book was so well done, absolute perfection really.
I enjoyed the flashbacks and watching the relationship develop, and also the obvious change that Finn has undergone.
"Now, I'm right back where I was before I left.
"And where's that?"
"Tangled up in you."

Even better on the reread. A definite "Go To" read for me!!! Love Love Love these guys and cannot wait for more!

****

As Brantley entwined their fingers, Daniel gently squeezed them, and his chest tightened as if those same fingers had just wrapped around his heart.

First Logan and Tate, then Leo and Alasdair and now Finn and Brantley…can this woman not create unbelievable chemistry between her leading men or what?? My gawd. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect this book to be this great…this touching and this scorching hot…but it was.

The storyline is a new one for me so that in itself was so refreshing. Add to that a cocky Finn who at times you’d think could be a long lost brother to our dear ole Cole and Logan...Phew!!! And like with Logan and Tate, the plot of the book is them and the love they have for each other and it is perfect.

Brantley is just so unbelievably caring and while you want to hate him for what he did, he truly believed what he was doing was right…and how hard that is to come to realize that his actions hurt the one he loved the most. Some heartbreaking moments for sure. But these two are destined to be together, and while their lives have been separated for so long, neither one of them could truly move on.

The chemistry between these two is pretty palpable and once again Ella can create some unbelievable eye fucking moments with sexual tension like no other…my heavens…prepare yourself people.

As for what’s to come…I was giddy about the possibilities at 25%...as there are friends introduced in this book that you want more of…and one scene in particular I want told from their POV like NOW!!! Come on Ella…don’t leave us hanging long.

This is an absolute MUST read…and yes…come release day…I’m getting amnesia because I plan to read this all over again from the beginning…and I can’t wait!!

And what is not to love when I get a taste of my Logan. Yep…"Logan Fucking Mitchell”…and the perfect excuse for a picture...and the "cherry" on top for this unbelievable book!!!

He walked to the door, but at the last minute, he turned around to look back at him. Not willing to back down and show weakness, Brantley kept his eyes on his student as Daniel ran his tongue along his lower lip.
“You should call me Finn. Everyone else does.”

Hell yes!

I really don't like when I have to keep doing maths and flipping back and forth when I'm reading - I am not a numbers person!!

The inconsistency was really grating for me, when Brantley was stressing about their age gap, and both kept emphasising how long they'd been apart. It was like one of those annoying maths test questions with Sally and her stupid apples.

At the start it's stated Finn just turned 30 and Brantley is 39, they have a 9 year age gap. Finn has been gone for 7 years, so he was 23 when he left. They were in a relationship for 3.5 years before Finn left so Finn would have been 19 when they got together. Yet when Finn is talking to Derek about his crush on the professor, he says he's not old, he's only 32 but they aren't together at that point
