I really got swept up in the emotions of this book. I felt like I was trapped in a downward spiral with these characters. The way Mellors writes about addiction is cutting and heartbreakingly realistic. That was the real standout of the book for me.
I thought the portrayal of the sisters and birth order leaned a bit into cliché, but maybe that’s because i’m a middle child?? and obviously I don’t know the epic highs and lows of being the eldest or the youngest.
The beginning and middle really captured me, but the ending didn’t do it for me.

reading this as a 20 year old male with only a younger brother, i was shocked to relate so deeply to the characters. each sister so uniquely beautiful in their own ways, with such deep stories i was incredibly attached to.
