This is a beautiful, captivating and heartfelt story about the Blue Sisters which reminds me somewhat of Little Women. The sisters suffer a heartbreak in their family and each sister expresses their grief through different forms of addiction (pain, kleptomania, drugs/alcohol). Throughout the saga the sisters learn to forgive themselves, let go and live again.
The author captures the bond between and the complexity of the sisters beautifully. She displays such dreamy prose. Some novels hit a lull or boring point but I did not experience that at all in Coco Mellors’ writing. I loved this. I can’t wait to read what else the author has in store for us!
4.5 stars!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I thought the storytelling throughout this book was interesting and I enjoyed how the sisters characters were developed, particuarly Bonnie's story. The final chapter was positive and uplifting, and partially made up for the difficulties and struggles the sisters faced throughout the book. The audiobook version of this did feel too long and quite repetitive in parts, and I got bored quite quickly, so it took me over a month to complete.

First book i read by Coco Mellors.
I just finished the book and i don’t even know where to start.
First and foremost, i loved this book. I think the only reason it isn’t a 5 stars is because of the epilogue. Had the book ended before it we would have been subjected to our own imagination to create what the sisters didafter they sell the apartment.
But i feel like the epilogue have a sense of closure, and happiness that wasn’t needed. It finished almost too neatly after everything we learn about the family, the sisters, and their personalities.
Although this book was a medium read for me, it is centered on a short amount of time. It seems like a lot happens, because you can see how everything unravels for each character, and yet i didn’t feel suffocated by the character development. It was just the right amount of info for me to build the story in my head and follow along.
I loved the writing, it went from elaborated, to simple, from serious, to lighthearted, all while dealing with heavy topics of addictions, childhood trauma, and death. It felt like reading a page of a diary at times, which was strange yet comforting.
I think Coco Mellors did such a beautiful job with this story, and i cannot wait to dig into C&F as soon as I’ve digested this one fully!

a really gorgeous slow-burn exploring grief, sisterhood, motherhood, and addiction.
blue sisters didn’t land for me quite as hard as cleopatra and frankenstein did, but i think that’s just a personal thing—for people who have sisters, i feel like this could be the book, given how vividly the familial dynamic is written! each sister individually is also lovely; they’re all extremely flawed people, grappling with their own secrets, but the way they’re written makes them feel unbelievably human.
the only con this book really has, at least for me, is that it’s a pretty slow burn; with the synopsis of the book being what it is, i kind of expected that the sisters would be together sooner and spend a little bit more time together. as-written, it did still work, but something about the mismatch between what i thought the structure of the book would be vs the reality did make the first half or so feel a tiny bit stretched out.
regardless, coco mellors’ writing is stunning, and if she writes it, i’ll read it and love it. 4/5 stars!!
