I felt like I spent half the novel supremely frustrated at Irena and the other half wondering at the attraction towards Olek? The best thing in the novel is easily the Taylor and Michael dynamic, I found myself pushing towards the end of the novel just to get to the end of the series faster.

I enjoyed this story especially because I liked Irena's and Alejandro's characters. It was action packed and it had me flying through the ending.

The emotional impact of Demon Forged by Meljean Brook hits you right between the eyes. Irena and Alejandro’s quest to be together is just the tip of the iceberg. The four centuries they were apart paved a winding road of pain and loss that only the strongest could survive, but that is nothing compared to what Anaria has in store for them. The mother of the nephilim wants control of Hell and is willing to destroy anyone who gets in her way, including Michael, her brother and leader of the Guardians. Adding to the mix of insurmountable odds is the betrayal by one of their own.

Sigh. The chokehold this series has on my heart. And the way I keep going back to it.

Sometimes I don't realize how much I love a book until I'm drawn to it again. And I only feel compelled to reread a book in full that has really resonated with me. This is definitely one of those books. I will go on forever about how much I love the vastly different characters meljean creates and fleshes out so so well and still makes me love. I fucking love Irena and Alejandro. This was also more enjoyable to me on the reread bc I knew what to expect. I did find detective taylor annoying this time around so that was new. This series is exceptional and I'm struggling not to blow through it again.

Oh my, so this book really sets things into motion. On one hand I thought I knew what would happen but on the other hand just...wow. There was certainly a lot of interesting things happening here, so much so, that I felt it detracted a little from Irena and Alejandro's story. I started off strongly disliking Irena and surprise surprise adored her by the end. She is so so so badass. The friendships and histories here arghhh

Another winner from Meljean Brook. It dragged a little in the middle, but the end took me totally by surprise. The characters were everything I expected of them, though I'll be curious to see where some newly introduced ones are headed.

Overall? It was amazing.

This one was really fascinating, but I REALLY should’ve started with book 1 in this series

"she had revealed a stubborn streak comparable to a deaf ox."

"she hadn't just lost faith in him, faith had been torn away from her."

"do you still grieve for her?"
"when i think of her. when i have to speak of her."

"i dont need your protection, you stupid jerk."
"you'll likely find that when she needs it, and when she wants it, will rarely coincide."

"no matter how hard you wish, that will not be my head."
he saw her lip twitch. her gift pulsed, and the steel on the anvil became a miniature sculpture of him. she tapped her hammer against the head.
"i will pound sense into you."

This was my favorite in the Guardian series to date. I continue to enjoy the worldbuilding, and seeing the characters from the previous stories, but there was something truly special about the story of Irina and Alejandro spanning over 400 years.

A well drawn world with fun characters. Irena is a total badass and I like her self-awareness (and her self-ignorance). The various story weavings in this one were less subtle and nuanced than in others, and I'm sad that Dru and Pim won't get a story, but this was very enjoyable!
