Very good at conveying the main character's emotions, often she was stuck in between a rock and a hard place, surviving due to a mix of sheer luck and wits. The pacing was enjoyable.

Once a physician’s daughter, she’s now one of the many women surviving under Roman rule. Told entirely through her point of view, the novel vividly reimagines the daily realities of those living on the margins—offering insight into class, gender, and power in the ancient world.

✨This is not a glorified tale of empire or mythology, but a deeply human story of endurance, friendship, and ambition in a brutal system. Harper’s attention to historical detail makes the ancient city feel alive, while her focus on the lived experience of women brings a much-needed voice to those often left out of the historical record.
