Nothing too surprising here, but the atmospherics are evocative of ancient Pompeii and the recurring themes are timeless. 3.5 stars. I’ll definitely read the next book in the series.

Any book on female friendship and strength and resourcefulness is probably automatically at least a 4 star book to me but as in a historical setting and shedding light on little examined women’s roles in society???? Chefs kiss. Amara is a wonderful protagonist and I’m loving my reread of the first book to get in the mood for 2 and 3!!
