DID NOT FINISH: 50%

Liked the concept but just wasn’t that invested. Dnf.

I forgot how steamy this series was compared to soulbound.

DNF around 50%

The sex was CRAZY, but I wasn't here for the insta-love.

...really, i am worried about this guy's ass

*1.5 stars*

i liked the author's soulbound series so i thought to check this one out too but the difference in writing is huge ™.

it started off well but the long (&boring) action scenes coupled with longer sex scenes (that felt really mechanical) with little emotional development between the mcs killed the book for me.

After getting completely bowled over by Turner's Soulbound series, I figured I should come back and give this series another try. I even stacked the deck by going with the audiobook this time, since Greg Boudreaux could read the phone book and I'd give it a five-star review.

Having finished the book it was...OK. As noted elsewhere this is perilously close to PWP (Plot? What Plot?) at times, with an abundance of lengthy sex scenes. Now, I'm ace but even so I enjoy me some well-written erotica. When it's >30% of the book? That's a bit much. I wound up skipping forward vast swaths to get back to the plot. And the plot was good! I'm not a huge military SF fan but that part was well-done. Turner writes excellent action sequences, maintaining the tension and keeping a clear picture of what is going on for the reader. Oh, and the narration? Greg does not disappoint, as usual.

No star rating, but only because it’s a DNF.

I’m just out of gas on this one. It’s not bad and I would recommend it for those who like military SF m/m romances (gods, now that’s a specific niche, isn’t it?) but it’s just not holding my interest right now. Time to move on.

This was just okay for me. I have been completely obsessed with this author's lastest series (Infernal War), so I thought I would check out some of their earlier books. This one is not as engaging even though the writing is strong and the world building engaging. My biggest issue is the instant soul mate situation that developed very quickly. No build up just an instantaneous connection that lacked the depth I think the author was trying to achieve with lengthy, marathon sex scenes that I tended to skim through. There is something missing when it comes to the hard to believe connection formed by the instant glomming together of the two MCs. Despite this, the series has quite a lot of potential and I am looking forward to moving onto book 2 of the series!
