Marji and Stanley are sweet. Marji has a soft strength which I really enjoyed. She doesn't push back harshly, she just trys to love. Its an interesting contrast to her sister Sorrel, her book is[b:Friends and Foes|12887705|Friends and Foes (The Jonquil Brothers, #1)|Sarah M. Eden|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1387720744s/12887705.jpg|18041216], who is prickly and outspoken. I didn't love Stanley as much as I did in some of the previous books. Part of that is because he is in a dark place and spends the book fighting it and learning to live with the changes.
Sorrel and Philip feature prominently, which was awesome. I really can't wait for the next Jonquil book to see how their current situation turns out. The antics of the brothers is one of my favorite things. Harry saw some limelight as did Layton. The black bar in the Gatehouse was terrific. I did enjoy the antics of Puck and I hope that we see him again.
I did have one major unhappiness.
But overall this book was great!!!

Spoiler
Stanley decides the Marji would never want to be a soldiers wife and that its not fair to her so they can never be together. He never even asks her if that is something that she wants. Marji does make her stance on the matter known, several times. But I was really quite miffed that Stanley never even asked. But overall this book was great!!!

I always love reading a Jonquil story. This had a different take with PTSD (kinda) and I loved so much Philip in it. I really liked the part about the brothers holding their own Parliament. It was a little slow in some parts, I did think Marjie was melodramatic a few times that it was getting annoying.

As I write this I'm sitting on my bed, utterly devastated by another masterpiece by Sarah M. Eden. I've never been touched by the hardships of we, but I deeply felt Stanley's pain while Marjie embodied everything I've ever wished to be. Caring, loving, and perceptive to the needs of those she loves. This book is a must-read, and one of my personal favorites in the series.

Another lovely story about a Jonquil brother finding love... this one was a little harder to read because of the war (Napoleonic Wars) story line. It's really delightful to see this fictional family grow in number as well as experience and in love towards one another.

I know this book isn't as funny as others in the series, but I really liked how Ms. Eden handled a very serious topic, that of what soldiers who have seen battle go through coming home. I think it's a great addition to the series.

Oh my heart! While Phillip and Sorrel are fierce and feisty, Marjie and Stanley are quietly kind and caring to those around them.
After months of hearing nothing from the front, Stanley unexpectedly returns home. He is surly and distant, and no one can figure out why. Pieces of that puzzle come out over the time he is there convalescing, and we see more into his time as a child and his time at war.
Some of my favorite moments include Caroline talking about hurts, the black stick, and anytime Pluck is around.
TW: descriptions of war and injuries as well as depression and brief mention of suicidal thoughts.

This is such a beautiful love story! Marjie has loved Stanley for a long time and has written to him faithfully while he was at war. Stanley unexpectedly returns and is battle-weary and scarred in more ways than one. He is aloof and is not the same person that Marjie knew. As she tries to delve into what happened to Stanley and help him recover, Stanley becomes convinced that Marjie deserves better than him.
This is a great story of unconditional love and redemption. I really enjoyed reading this next book in the Jonquil brother series and definitely recommend it to my daughter!

I really liked this installment of the Jonquil Brothers series we haven’t heard a lot about Stanley in previous books except that he’s in the military. This book really talked about the horrors of war and the wounds—bother physical and emotional—that have to be borne by survivors. I was so frustrated that her kept insisting he had to go back when he so obviously hated it, but I guess that’s where the “honor” comes into play.
