This was a breeze of a read, and I think I'll read the next in the series. Alex Rider is a pretty good character and, though I didn't really find this book particularly satisfying, I think there's potential here.

It was nice to reread this, I’d definitely forgotten most of the plot, so it was a nice throwback. I don’t remember the story being so quick, and found it seemed to move unbelievably fast, but I enjoyed the action sequences. I’ll probably read the next one, as I know the story picks up a bit. A good easy nostalgic read.
Short review first appeared on my blog: Book Addict 24-7
Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz was a great adventure that introduced us to Alex Rider, a fourteen year-old boy who's recently lost his uncle under mysterious circumstances. This adventurous book was intriguing from beginning to end and is a promising start to a great series.
I'm not going to lie, one of the main reasons why I read this one is because I watched the movie, and like almost every single time, the book was much better. If you've seen the film and loved it (other than the fact that the very cute Alex Pettyfer is in it), I definitely recommend reading the book. The action is better and Alex Rider faces a lot more than what the movie portrays.
This is a relatively easy and quick read--especially since it can be found in the 9-12 age group, even though Alex is a fourteen year-old boy. The villains are entertaining in their evilness and Alex's character is proven to be more worthy of an adventure than the kid shown in the film.
One of the only issues I had with this one was the narrative. I'm not a huge fan of third person omniscient, since it leaves practically nothing to the imagination, and I think this story would have felt less like a kid's story and more like a teen story if it had been presented in first person. I wanted to see what Alex truly thought about his situation and I wanted to see the world through his eyes, not through Horowitz's omniscient eyes. For me, this use of narrative not only made the story sound slightly childish, but it also made me feel a bit disconnected from what Alex experiences.
If you're a fan of spy books for teens, then definitely give this one a shot. There's a lot more books in the series if you are hungry for more, and it's also great for readers who enjoy anything James Bond-related.

I really enjoyed stormbreaker. Great book for boys looking to read a James Bond type adventure book.
First read this series when I was about 10, now 15 and trying to satisfy my fascination with crime and secret agents by rereading this series.
Book 1 does by far, show the most annoying side of Alex in my opinion (dare I say his slight arrogance and cockiness). This does however, highlight his growing maturity in the later books, so I'm learning to live with it.

At first, I was going to give this a three because it is a book meant for kids and I thought that may be part of why I wasn't getting into it. But I realized there have been several elementary books that I have truly enjoyed reading and this felt like I was just pushing through. The action scenes seemed to convenient and the plot wasn't put together that well. It all seemed watered down unnecessarily. I think it would be an okay introduction book for students who may not have found something they like yet but I wouldn't use it in any of my schools book clubs.
26/8/16 - I enjoyed re-reading this but found I have probably left it to late to re-read this with full enjoyment, I have also left it to late to read the rest of the series which is a shame.
A brilliant book, fast paced, likable main character, delicious bad guys, definitely recommending it!
This is a 3.5 to me. I liked it pretty well, but not enough to read sequels. But reluctant boy readers will be getting this book rec from me a fair amount!
