First half was slow and kinda boring. Second half picked up and was interesting which redeemed the story. I get that it's middle grade but Alex could look a little bit more sad that his uncle is dead and I'd also love to get more background on his life and info on other characters too. Average read.

the first book in a series that I'm going to re-read is always going to be pretty good because 1. it's the introduction to the rest of the series and based on the first book, I've decided to read the rest of the series. and 2. this isn't the first time.

Damn nostalgia came in floods reading this back for the first time in probably 10 years.

Was the writing style a bit choppy and over simplified? Yes, it’s a kids book. Did it make it quicker to read and keep the pace up through the entire book? It did! Not one time was I able to put the book down without sinking 3 or 4 chapters deeper.

Horowitz does a fantastic job of gripping the reader from page one, and re-reading this explains a lot about my reading habits now as an adult, and my love for the orphan X series.

The fast paced action and chapter to chapter cliff hangers were just fantastic. I had forgotten most of what happened in this book but getting through it brought back the excitement of reading it for the first time.

Defiantly a classic and excited to get through the rest of the series!

Really enjoyed this James Bond for Middle School boys. Went and checked out the 2nd book to see what happens next to Alex Rider!

I wish more YA boys knew how to kill people using a quad bike.

:)

Proper review at some point.

I'm finally re-reading this series after about 10 years so I'm pumped !!

I enjoyed the Stormbreaker film so much that I wasn't as excited to read this first book, but I can't wait to continue the series and revisit all of Alex's crazy espionage antics. You know, just for the sheer fun of it.

3 Silver Stars
with Golden Sparks

I decided to write a review for this instead of book 2, as I prefer to write one at least for book 1 of the series, if for none of the others

Mystery, thrilling Espionage middle Grade/YA
exciting
fun (sassy 14 yo Alex! funny narration)
I liked it more than Artemis Fowl, even with the lack of Fantasy element here. the characters are better (I think I like Alex)

my only problem beside the translation, was getting confused with all those gadgets he uses, at least when they introduced them to him all at once (either, I can't memorize it or comprehend it) but when he uses it, I know how they work.
& also, my all-time problem with these kind of books (mysteries I guess) , the lack of a proper main villain (yet?). it feels like a tv shows each episodes set to a different case. the come & go challenges & encounters between the hero & the villain (in which sometimes the villain wins) & making him miserable. the main plot that threads between books.
so they are not my all-time favourite series, but I still like to read them.
