This book is actually everything to me and I have a hard time believing that any other book I read can top it this year. It's so different than what I normally read, and that's refreshing. Monty, Percy, Felicity- all of the characters are full fleshed, characters that I just adored.

the exploration of race, sexuality and gender roles in the 18th century is done exquisitely.

if everyone wrote historical fiction like this, it would be my favorite genre.

also: Felicity reads as though she us ace to me. I'm curious if anyone else read her this way?

I have fallen in love with Percy through Monty and Monty through his own voice.

I am in awe of this beauty.

THIS EFFING BOOK. I’ve been recommending this book to everyone since I’ve started it and now that I’ve finished I’m going to be increasing my efforts tenfold. Talk about your character development/kickass-bisexual-representation/angsty romance/adventure story. You will very rarely catch me saying that I wish a book went on forever, but I would have happily immersed myself in this book forever.

Monty is such a compelling main character. He’s an alcoholic prick with a heart of gold who struggles to understand his own privilege and reckon with his trauma. Although the plot is non-stop action, it is truly Monty’s personal journey that carries this book.

This story made me laugh, cry, gasp, and giggle with glee, all on multiple occasions. Lee has such a knack for bringing authenticity to every scene as well as truly excelling at dialogue. This book is heartbreaking and hilarious and I cannot recommend it enough. I absolutely can’t wait for the next book in the series.

(On a side note, I loved Christian Coulson’s narration of it—he brings the voice of Monty to life. Probably the best audiobook I have ever listened to. I’ve already been researching other books he’s narrated because I was so enraptured by his voice and delivery.)

3.8!!! I blew threw about 3/4 of this book, and then came to a halt. The last quarter dragged on a bit for me. I eventually got tired of both the “will they, won’t they” and the cat and mouse chase going on. However, the ending was pretty satisfying. I’m pretty sure I audibly said “Finally!” I think all of the characters in this book are wonderfully written. Even though I didn’t always agree with or particularly like Monty, I still felt sorry for him. Which is a big deal! Because usually if I don’t really like a character I’m reading about, I’m out. It’s a personal thing. I also really enjoyed all the different relationships between characters. I’m big on strong characters, I guess. Anyway, I’m super excited to read the rest of the Montague siblings series!

DNF. The writing wasn't very engaging and there was a lack of complexity.
