291 is a twisted tale in more ways than one with the biggest twist saved for the very end.

When I started reading this, I was immediately reminded of the Hulu Original "The Rookie," starring Nathan Fillion since 291's protagonist is also an older than average rookie cop. That train of thought disappeared and was replaced by thoughts of CHRISTINE and FROM A BUICK 8. I went back and forth between a cop having a series of bad days, and, maybe, that same cop experiencing the supernatural. It is hard to tell until you get to that last page.

291 is a fast read that will take you down roads you may not want to explore. You will go along for the ride just to find out what is really happening.

I love this writer, but this novella has gone well over my expectations. It's a really fast-paced, tremendously engaging story. A masterly horror story, the kind that doesn't rely on gore or cheap shots to scare you.

I love the way in which, through its structure, lead us to believe that we know what really is going on, and then, in the end, shake us with a very unexpected ending. Really fabulous!

And Steve Marvel does a fantastic job narrating this story :)

An excellent, original story-line and with great characters, you won't surface until you hit the end. A must-read if you enjoy good horror.

What a fantastic, suspenseful story, reminiscent of Stephen King's "Christine" or Joe Hill's "NOS482". The tension builds and builds until the climatic ending, with a twist that will leave you thinking long after you finish this one. Susan May has once again crafted an amazing, twisty thriller that will leave you wanting more!

Rookie cop Michael Chambers finds himself at war with his police vehicle. Every time Chambers is given car 291 for his shift, something goes wrong; engine trouble, flat tyres, electronic issues. He can almost swear that he can feel the presence of something or someone, after all the car was the vehicle of a cop who was killed on duty.

As a horror novella, the first half of it works but I was a little disappointed with the ending. I can see what the author was going for, but it didn't quite work for me. It was good enough though that I will try some of the author's other works.

This is a novella so forgive me if this review seems short or vague. It's to avoid spoilers. Michael Chambers is a rookie cop older than most rookies. He's had multiple jobs over the years which displeases and worries his parents. Nothing has seemed to stick with Michael so he decided to do what his dad did and become a cop. He thought becoming a cop would help or even end his indecisiveness, and he thought it would make his dad proud. So finally his first shift arrives and he is assigned car 291. The car has a reputation as hunted or possessed. It got that reputation because of a tragic event that happened to the officer that used to drive it. Now the car is pretty much used as a loaner . Somehow Michael keeps getting assigned the car and weird things keep happening. if you liked Christine you might like this. I will say that I didn't see the ending coming.

Wow! This story has more twists and turns than a road laid out by a black snake! 291 grabbed me and didn't let go until the final page. My mind was absolutely blown by the shocking conclusion. It is an excellent lesson on human behavior and consequences of our actions, as well. The subplot was just as good as the main storyline. I highly recommend it and know you will enjoy it.
