I don’t usually read memoirs as I find that people with interesting lives either cannot manage to transcribe why it makes it interesting or they fail to make them relatable enough for you to care. I found neither of those issues here. For a first novel, I found Jennette’s writing to be really enjoyable. I thought the eating disorder representation was really good.
I only wish we got to learn more about how her view of her mom’s action and persona changed but in a way it made the last chapter just that much more powerful.
My best read of the year so far, I couldn’t put it down !

I could not stop listening to this audiobook. I was captured, engrossed, obsessed. I was not part of the iCarly generation but even with the little I knew about her I didn’t feel like I was missing any details. McCurdy’s writing flies, I didn’t for a moment feel bored or that there were any unnecessary scenes. This book was sad, funny, heart wrenching, and real. I commend the author for how real and open she is about her trauma but I guess as a child star she has been forced into that her whole life.
