In a world with dying magic and dragons, a city is held hostage to a thief dragon, set on tormenting every coin out of them.
A teenager gifted with understanding Dragontongue is hired to mediate the conflict.
While manoeuvring the large city, the City Guard and possible young love, she finds the family she never really had before.
But will she be able to find a peaceful way to end the torment and help everyone at the same time, preventing any more loss of life?

In this beautifully built world, Lotte is one of the few Dragontongues, and even in her young age, she carries a lot of responsibility. Dealing with dragons is not easy and this time, it’s harder than usual.
The adventure of a lifetime turns dangerous and even deadly while Lotte tries to mediate with a thief of a dragon, while dealing with an array of emotions that would hinder any adult. From teen sapphic love to a line up of terrible parents, new friendships and old trauma.
This story has it all, while fantasy and dragons go hand in hand with the emotional drama of crappy family and new family, of lies and betrayals, and gory dragon chow.

The pace is slow but steady, giving us time to fall inlove with many characters and absolutely despise others. The “twist” is foreshadowed and not much of a surprise, but it does hinder the story, in fact, it gives the reader time to understand what surrounds it and explain actions and emotions.

This story was a ride, sometimes thrilling, sometimes scary, sometimes sad, but in the end it all falls together.

And I’ll be sitting pretty awaiting a Scyler novella or even just a bonus chapters because they won my heart from the very start and i want so much more!

I am thankful to Entangled and NetGalley for the ARC provided and the hours of fun. This review is my own, my thought and emotions, thankfully with no dragon injuries!

Things I Loved

Hello my gorgeous beautiful sapphic dragon loving friends. This book was adorable to the extreme. I enjoyed every minute of it. Hollis has a great and engaging writing style, and the whole book flowed very well. All aspects of queerness were integrated very well, we had a non-binary character, our main characters were sapphic, but it was done so naturally. It wasn't the focal point of the book, it was just apart of it, which I loved.

This was definitely a different take on dragons, ones I hadn't seen before, and I liked that.

Lotte is an excellent main character -- her character arc was fabulous. Even the side characters were nicely developed. One of the things about the plot was obvious, however, it didn't detract from the overall story, because while there was an action based plot, much of this book was character driven and about the choices they do and don't make.

There was a tiny bit of gore in this book, but not too much. There were also quite a few parts that deal with parental trauma and childhood trauma. Having not experienced those things, I can't say as to the accuracy, but they do play a part in the story of our characters.

Overall, this was a well crafted standalone book about two girls who fall in love while a dragon is terrorizing a town.
