I am not sure about this book. I found it quite boring at places as the descriptions of the surroundings seemed endless and quite interesting at others. It sure offers some very serious things to think about human nature, but the lack of information about how long a period of time the described events cover and some things that are unrealistic make it unconvincing. 
I've seen a few reviews that people read this book during their school years; I would never, ever, ever let a child read.

It seemed like the writer focused too much on trying to be poetic, and in the proces of doing so, forgot about the plot. I would have liked the book better if there was more of an explanation as to why and how the kids got there without an adult. This book was written a bit vague which led me to putting it down on multiple occasions even though it's such a short book.

Another aspect which I disliked was how "Piggy" was contantly referred to as fat. I get how children tease each other but you can tell the author also has some kind of prejudice. 

The end was written a bit better and the only reason that I give this book a whole star.
