read this in class and while it's fun to analyse, its not a very fun read on it's own. it is quite obvious that it was written during the cold war and themes of war and the innate evilness of mankind is really stark here. if you dig that then go for it but if u want something lighter then don't.  personally i  don't really agree with that at all and so the book was very hard to read and on top of that the characters are quite dislikeable even the ones you are supposed to sympathise with. also all the characters are white British boys between the ages of 6-12 and most are rich. take that how you will.
