A must read we navigate these recent times. A glimmer of hope. Not only does it give me hope but makes me want to be a better human.
8/10

I really needed to read this right now. It's tough out here, and it's so encouraging to read that science actually backs the idea that people are inherently kind. While people in power aren't kind AT ALL right now, we must trust each other and allow our compassion to push through.
That being said, Philip Zimbardo, count your days.

an excellent balance of psychology, philosophy, critical thinking, scientific interpretation and thinking outside of the box.
it challenges pretty much everything i thought i knew about people... we've got it all wrong somewhere along the way when we started to believe that humans are more evil than good, and it's not just hippy wishful thinking to believe otherwise. in fact, it may well be crucial to our survival to realise and embrace this key fact.
this book is very well-researched with a plethora of citations to back up its core argument (that humans are much more kind than we have come to believe, and that "being a realist" is much more akin to being compassionate than it is to being a cynic), but it is also full to the brim with humanity, humour and heart.
examples and case studies are from many different countries and communities across the world and some evidence is even presented from throughout our evolutionary history.
would recommend to anyone, 5 stars
