So beautifully written!! Had so many interesting things to say about college, friendship, finding yourself, and being Asian American. Parts of it read like a sociological qualitative study or an English major’s essay but I kinda liked that - made me slow down my reading pace and actually think about things. Also so interesting to hear how he describes California.

It's always a worthwhile experience to read a memoir written by someone with whom you have nothing in common. The glimpse into their life, the way they think about themselves and how they relate to the world, opens a window into other people's inner world in a way that nothing else can.

Hsu's grief after his friend gets murdered is tangible and heartfelt, but it's not used on the page to manipulate the reader into feeling anything. He manages to write about his feelings in a way that feels true without pretension.

Surpassed the hype.

One of the best memoirs I’ve ever read. Gorgeous all around.

the same way it took me a long time to get through this book with its hues too painfully similar to my own life, im not sure i'm ready to review it the way i'd like quite yet.
