Horrible. Untrue to the original material. Unnecessarily convoluted. Too long and yet it didn't have enough space to fit all of the material. Ruined Harry Potter time turners. I hope it's better live

My biggest problem was this book was not the story, it was that it is a play. In my opinion, it should have been written as a book and then a play. Instead, it was written for the purpose of a play and then they just published that script. This book had the potential to be so great and give all Harry Potter fans more from the Wizarding World, but it was difficult reading it as a play. With just brief scene analysis and hardly any descriptions, it was difficult to picture. Had this been an actual book, it would have been so so so so so much better. The writing in this book also does not live up to the Harry Potter standard. It is not solely written by J.K Rowling as we know and love the rest of Harry Potter, and it shows. There were also a lot of things the characters we have known for so long did that I felt like they would never do.

This is the first time I have ever read Harry Potter and the cursed child because I did not think I would understand reading a screen play. However because I have read the original 7 Harry Potter books several times and can almost quote all the movies word for word I found even with the lack of words that I could imagine it really well. (Mainly as a story but parts of it I could visualise on stage.) This book took me by surprise in several ways and some of it I had suspected ever so slightly but still a huge plot twist. I laughed quite a lot and I have felt new feelings for certain characters that I never thought would ever exist-pity and sadness mainly but also anger towards some of my most loved characters. I would read it again 100% however a non screenplay version would be amazing. Still love it though.

You can tell this was rewritten for stage, but the storyline does not give the original series any justice.

It was a little strange reading this as a play with all the stage directions, but I enjoyed it. I honestly had a few of the plot points rattling around in my brain as fan fiction ideas haha. I felt nostalgia at parts as well, remembering experiencing a new Harry Potter book. Maybe one day I will go see the actual play.

This was absolutely awful. Maybe more like 1.5 stars because there were small things I liked but overall it was horrific.

The characterisation was... well, there wasn't any.
The writing was... well, it was like a fanfiction written by a 12 year old.
And the plot was... well, it was nonsensical and ridiculous.

What angered me the most, though, was the way Harry was written. He was written as a bad father. Which is absolute utter BULLSHIT. Harry James Potter, after everything he went through as a child, feeling unloved and like no one understood him, would never, EVER, tell his child he sometimes wished he wasn't his father. I'm sorry, but that is something the Harry I know and love would never let pass his lips.

It was atrocious and I'm surprised that it even got published.

Save yourself the disappointment and time, and don't read this.

I'm too upset to even bother writing more. I could go on forever about how this play was terrible but I won't. It's not worth my time.

TL;DR: it's a steaming pile of shit.

I'm so shitty at doing reviews I don't even know how I'm supposed to do something Coherent after finishing this book. Was waiting for this for God knows how long and now I can't. I'm dead! In the begining there was something that was throwing me of about Harry and Albus, but Oh god, after like 20% I couldn't stop. Loved to see the development of this story and the characters. I won't be able to get over the fact that we just saw
SpoilerJames and Lily die, like I'm the biggest fan of James, Sirius and Remus and this one just killed me, I was really expecting to see Sirius finding the bodies and thanks god it didn't happened or I'd have an heart attack
. And the second alternative time line, after the second task? Like what was that? Snape, Hermione and Ron!!! My poor heart. I didn't even knew how much I needed something like that but now it's trully over and I don't know what to do with my life. Looooooved Scorpius so freaking much. And Draco, he snucked up on me! I'm in love and this book was so awesome, it got me through all the f*cking feels, I laughed and cried and got so frustrated at some times. This was LEGEND-wait for it -DARY!!
