I didn't think I was going to make it through this. I had a LOT of issues with this book.

The language is difficult, but eventually I did get used to it, though it definitely took a lot more effort to continue reading this one than a lot of other books. I slowed down my pace considerably, trying to get the most out of the story.

The writing is also not my favourite, from referring to 5 different characters as Miss Bennet, to suddenly referring to herself as the author out of nowhere. Reading " It is not the object of this work to give a description of Derbyshire" was so jarring! And other quirks like "----shire", those didn't bother me as much, but still took me out of it.

As for the story, I didn't find it funny :( As a casual reader and not particularly into this time of history as a topic, I had a difficult time following the social structure, and why I should care about certain things. I think that probably has a lot to do with why I didn't get the humour of the book.

Otherwise, it was alright. Definitely wouldn't read it again, didn't particularly enjoy it for myself, but I appreciate it for existing and am extremely proud for finishing it.

Re-reading this always introduces new perspectives that I hadn't yet considered during my last read. While the tropes and themes can be harsh from our modern perspective, I enjoy especially characters that personify Austen's true feelings about different aspects of her society.

austen's writing style is well suited to the romantic genre, giving every moment its due, darcy and elizabeth (and all other characters) were wholly fleshed out, and austen was not afraid to show their flaws and misconduct, although some may peg some of the characters as odd or eccentric i believe they are simply autistic. darcy, lizzy, and mr bennet are all examples and i will stand by that. a beautiful book that deserves its place as a classic, and can be enjoyed regardless of ones knowledge of the time period or of the romantic genre

I get it. I get why the girlies are like that. I get it.

One you get past the language barrier, nay, once you embrace the language barrier, you get it. The language is beautiful. The story is juicy. I love hot goss no matter the era. I had a great time and I was inspired to write so you know what? Extra points. What a great book.
