Since Akwaeke Emezi wrote one of my favorite books of all time (You Made a Fool of Death With Your Beauty), it has been my slow-going mission to read all of their backlist titles.

Akwaeke writes some of the most beautiful prose I have ever read in my life. And while Freshwater was not for me plot-wise, the writing was so stunning that I have to have at least a little love in my heart for this book as a result. Emezi could say the most mundane sentence like "I have to go grocery shopping" and turn it into the most beautiful sentence you will ever hear. They have such immense talent and that is why they continue to be one of my favorite authors.

So while I wasn't the biggest fan of Freshwater, I will remain one of Akwaeke Emezi's most loyal fans.

Yeah this was good. A very fascinating exploration of Emezi's experience with gender. Among other things. Do I remember all those other things? no. but that doesnt matter it was still good
