I was interested enough to finish this book, and since I DNF a lot of books, I consider 3 stars a good review.

The romance is very “old-school” in the sense that you have a giant, persistent male matched with a tiny, timid female and a misunderstanding between them that drags on even though it could easily be cleared up in a single conversation. That aside, Riftan isn’t horrible, and obviously cares for Maxi, and I like that she eventually makes an effort to do something rather than being the perpetual victim.

I am curious to know what happens in the next book.

There are parts that I really enjoyed and parts that I wasn't a fan of. But regardless I was still pretty into it. Its a story about a noble woman who had been married off to a knight being re-united with her husband 3 years after their wedding night.

She had been physically and verbally abused by her father so she is struggling with her trauma. She also has a stutter which makes her feel like she is less than (or I guess more accurately she has been raised to believe that from her abusive father).

There are many misunderstandings between her and her husband but they are slowly learning about each other and building a relationship. He seems to care deeply for her but does act in questionable ways. The comic is translated by fans so I wonder if some of that is just poor translation. I read all 21 chapters that are currently available and do hope to read more in the future as it becomes available.

Spoiler thoughts:
Spoiler
So I think it is more of a trope but some of the things the main guy says and does seems a little.. manipulative. I think its from poor translation but he will say they he doesn't want to force sex or something on her and then will say he cant help himself before its clear if she's accepted or not..

Its also true that she for sure had sex with him at least twice without actually wanting too but that was because of societal expectations. I just kinda wished it was a situation where he changed her mind instead of just.. did it.. I dunno. Fortunately we didn't see much of that.

I do think it is kinda cute how they worry about what the other person thinks or wants when they are both very wrong but I imagine that will get annoying pretty quickly if it keeps up or gets too serious.

I dont mind the lack of communication as much in this story because I know a majority of it is from the main female characters trauma. And I think they did a good job making that clear and reminding us why she doesn't feel comfortable speaking out. I do fear that it will get in the way of something BIG and become annoying to me regardless of the reason but I hope that is not the case. Hopefully the main conflict of the story will be around something other than their own miscommunications and misunderstandings.

I also REALLY REALLY hope this doesn't become a love triangle or anything...

If I had stuck with this long enough, apparently there would have been massive character growth and development. Unfortunately, I stuck it out till chapter 40+, it hadn't happened and it's gotten to the point where continuing is unbearable. The sexism, lack of consent and clunky translations in this was awful to read - at best, this light novel is a product of the society it's created in. At worst it's ignorant of what a real relationship needs to function.

I found this from an Insta ad for Manta lol. Spoiler, it’s a free pdf if you Google it. I love how crazy built the male lead is, and I do like the idea of the heroine fearing he’ll leave her. The insecurities felt very repetitive to me. It’s a quick read if you’re interested though!
