Super cute little Z book/easy reader about Big Dog and Little Dog who go for a walk and get very dirty. Level 1 Reader, lots of repeated text along with suggested activities at the end (sequence the pictures, match opposites, match text to picture).

This is a current favorite with my 17-month-old. It's the second Big Dog, Little Dog book we've read, and she really likes them both. The stories are very simple. There's a lot of repetition in the words, and it doesn't rhyme. Basically there's a big dog and a little dog who are friends and they do stuff together. In this book they encounter a skunk. Chaos ensues. Even without understanding what a skunk is, my daughter delights in this book. It's not my favorite to read aloud, so I probably would resist buying a copy. Checking it out from the library is perfect, because we can return it when I can't bear to read it one more time.
Clearly a hit with the intended audience, if not mom.

So simple, so wonderful. One of the best narrative fiction series on board. Big dog is happy. Highly recommended for ages 1-3.

I love these funny mischievous dogs. Also, the additional activities in the back (maze, word search, story sequencing, picture/sentence matching) are great for fun and additional comprehension. A great beginning reader!

We read this one 7 times in a row! My son especially likes the part where he knows that it's a skunk but the dogs don't.

Most of you know Dog Man or Captain Underpants, but do you know Dav Pilkey. He is such a sincere champion for literacy that he not only writes books that kids want to read, he writes books that kids CAN read. This is one of his emergent reader books and parents will love. The last three pages are designed to quiz your little reader and start teaching story elements that will be important for kindergarten.

F&P Level D. Little ones not yet ready for Dog Man may enjoy this series. Best for independent reading.
