"[...] we too are looking, we too are scrutinizing, assessing, judging. We are more than someone's object. We do more than stand passively in front of whoever, for whatever reason, has wanted to look at us. If you cannot finally see this about us, we will not allow ourselves to believe that the failure has been entirely ours. Not any more."

Man, Henry Kissinger sucks (not the main takeaway, but always an important takeaway)

I really liked the overall content of the book, but personally the photography, a key aspect of the book didn't live up to my expectations. Still a great read however!

A highly informative read. Not only does it offer an account of the historical events that led up to the current situation in Palestine, but it also portrays how people's lives have been affected and how they view Israel and the West. In doing so, Said makes sure to debunk some widely believed myths regarding the conflict itself, religion, and the East in general. The photos add a new dimension to the book and together with the real-life conversations that are documented bring the reader closer to the reality of the Palestinians. A book of both historical and literary value. Generally recommended.
