Dante was the boy down the street and also Delilah’s big brothers best friend. Lilah has always liked Dante but kinda knew he wouldn’t want her. She also knew he was off limits as he was the best friend of her brother. She was always his friend. When he went into the military she was the only one that would write to him. When she was 18 and before she went to college she schemed to get Dante to take her “V-card” when he was home on leave. They spent the next week together sleeping with each other before Dante had to go back overseas. He wanted them to keep seeing each other. They still wrote back and forth until she ghosted him. He couldn’t figure out why she stopped talking to him.
Years later Dante is out of the military and Lilah is now a nurse and working in Puerto Rico. As she was flying home with her sister they both get arrested for trafficking cocaine. Dante was the one to bail Lilah out of jail. Will he ever get to the bottom as to why she stopped talking to him and why she always avoided him? Will she forgive him once she finds out that he is related to the mafia?
I really enjoyed this book. Apparently this is book 2 of the “Tarnished Empire” series by Shain Rose. I’m reading them backwards because how Amazon has them posted. I learned I’ll have to look for the published date to make sure I read them in order. I’ll be started book 1 and already read book 3.

im amazed books this quality are getting published. and that THIS is best-selling author level. DAMN.

'show, don't tell' - i wanted to scream this every damn scene.

it was annoying and repetitive. time jumps make you understand even less of what is going on.

i don't remember the names and i finished this book a minute ago. he calls her 'lamb' every chance he gets. calls himself 'wolf' too lmfao. so cringy, yikes.

he's been in love with her always - author through his mouth/thoughts says so - but we don't actually see it. the lamb doesn't see it also. he keeps throwing other women he's been with in her face --- why the heck would you put that in a romance book?
yeah, okay, he's skilled with ladies, we got it. why repeat it again and again?

virginity and miscarriage and undercover mission drama were so dumb.

when a valedictorian smarty pants girl confesses to drugs possession BEFORE demanding that one call to her lawyer - she's not smart.
when we don't get a single frienship scene between 'wolf' and lamb's brother - that's not a 'brother's best friend' trope.
when every other character is shaking in fear just hearing his surname, but the dude does NOTHING badass - that's not real mafia shit.

Really awful

No no and no.

This just got worse and worse. It started off okay - best friends brother, friends to lover, slight age gap, some pining - cool I’m into it. Then add in some family trauma (twin sister who is an addict), okay. Then a tricked virginity loss that turned into low key BDSM week one (girl what?).

Then sisters end up in jail because twin sister is actually sober but working undercover for the mob which is actually an extension of the government and the former love/friend is one of the head honchos. Oh and THEN Delilah apparently got pregnant post virginity trickery and had a miscarriage and told no one. Major trauma, leading to huge mental health issues and horrific communication skills.

THEN she spends weeks with Dante waiting for her sister to get out of jail so they can bust this drug trafficking ring. THEN they dove into some BDSM (water play, voyeurism and wax play) which would’ve been hot if it wasn’t so soap opera-y and cringey. Then the twin sister gets out, and is ALSO in love with Dante. Then we get mistaken identities between the twins from the drug ring morons and a big mafia rescue blow out with some dramatic brain injury-hospital stay to learn “I can’t handle losing you”.

Throw in way too fast proposal with face riding while his MOTHER WALKS IN AND IS TALKING TO DELILAH, then another fucking miscarriage and major depressive episode, to wrap it up with overwrought messaging about life is a balance of beauty and strife and that’s the whole point (oh and then they had a baby finally).

This was just yuck. The amount of times Delilah was referenced as an actual child (12 years old with pigtails running down the stairs, first time getting her period, etc) as reasoning behind how and why Dante always loved her was GROSS. If she was 12, he was 17 at the time - that’s fucked up. The low key grooming vibes are viiiile.

Mind you, if I had a dollar for every time hazel eyes were described, wolf/lamb was used, seven to heaven was said, prey/predator was thrown around in an inner monologues and the whole “we can’t be together, I’m not right for you” bs happened, I could buy myself a nice new car. Fucks sake.

Pass fucking pass pass pass. This book is not it. I saw it all over booksta and was so excited to try a new author and loved the premise. The delivery is HOT GARBAGE. It gets 2⭐️ instead of 1 purely because a few of the spicy scenes caused

DID NOT FINISH

I got to about 50% and NOTHING was happening. They kept having the same conversation over and over and over again.

Well, I liked some parts and disliked some parts. This is my first mafia-related read and I don't think it will be my last. That being said, some parts had me cringing and I absolutely hated the "Lamb" pet name. I'm on the fence on if I am going to read Cade's story or not. We shall see...

I wish this book had the trigger warnings listed out rather than providing a link to list of them. I never click the links. But, holy fuck, this book was miscarriage heavy and it was triggering as fuck.

Outside of that, the FMC gasps way too much. I lived for the drama of the last 10% of this book. It was so entertaining. Mr. Hardy is my favorite.

Anyway, it was a fun read, triggers aside.

I was so surprised when i realized this is the same series as corrupted chaos because i did NOT enjoy that one at all. dante and delilah are just such an easy couple to route for and i'm a sucker for second chance romances
