Well-written, in a strictly technical sense. All of the characters are unlikeable idiots (except for the detective who shows up at the end to solve the "mystery"), and the twist is obvious, since there are really only two things that could possibly be going on.

This is a decent novella that you could read in one or two sittings. In these days of online scam artists and everybody being a self-proclaimed expert on all sorts of psychological conditions, such as high-functioning psychopathy, in a way it strikes a cautionary note about jumping to conclusions about people. In that sense, the book has a bit of the morality tale feel to it, but in an enjoyable sort of a way. It is definitely interesting and insightful about how pathological liars operate when they try to smear people in workplaces and life generally, but as a novella the book is a little too brief to explore the reasons why some people do twisted and destructive things to others in their vicinity. There are aspects of it that are slightly implausible, such as how quickly the romantic relationship in the novella moves to marriage, but perhaps they're only implausible to my own overly cautious nature. Definitely worth a read if you like novellas. If you prefer to get your teeth into long blockbusters, it may not be your cup of tea.

Brilliant concept for a 300 page book, but doesn't really suit a novella.

A sad and heartwarming story... it is definitely a skill to be able to build a world and a past for a groupd of characters in only 100 words. I really enjoyed this tale

Not sure if I enjoyed this one or not. When Chloe and her daughter Freya are rescued by the amazing and mysterious Tom, she can’t believe her luck or stop thinking about him. She managed to track his workplace down, to leave a thank you gift, but gets a shocking warning to stay away from him, curtesy of his receptionist. She tries not to listen but the poison sets in (compounded by her best friend’s worried input). Things accelerate rapidly on all fronts from there. Is she is grave danger or not?! The author keeps us guessing until pretty much the end. Which didn’t surprise me as I could see the route there.

I really like Sophie Hannah, but this was beyond dire. Infantile dialogue, a colander plot, and the main character Chloe was such a simpering insipid moron that the idea she'd ever be the object of anything other than contempt was completely unbelievable. Avoid.
