I'm giving The Root Cellar by Janet Lunn 2.5/5 stars

Rereading this book as an adult, I'm not sure what I liked so much about it when I was a kid beyond the fact it has time travel in it which I've always had a fondness for. It's an interesting story but the characters are very flat and I don't understand their motivations half the time.

This is a Newberry Medal winner from long past. It's the fascinating story of a young modern girl who travels back in time to the age of the civil war.

Such a cute old fashioned childrens novel. Well written, and short enough that the slower pace doesnt feel like it drags on.

I found this book at a thrift store and it looked interesting so I got it—boy, is it unique! The main character was often quite insufferable but it had some good supporting characters and an interesting storyline.

one of my favorite time travel books that I read in my teens!

Loved as a child. Marking it for a reread

I really liked this book when I was a young(er) person.
Mostly because I loved it in books when female characters would disguise themselves as boys.

A neat old story, not quite what I was expecting since the root cellar didn't play a big part, but still a good read. Haven't been taken to that era before in my readings.
